Buffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
Berkshire got caught in a short squeeze when shorting financials was temporarily banned. When everyone had to cover berkshire shorts simultaneously, the price shot to the roof. It has since gone down as low as 105 thousand in the forced selling by hedge and mutual funds. It has bounced up to 113 thousand at close, 10/11/08. Fair value by Morningstar is 157 thousand, so this is a great buying opportunity if you have a long term horizon. incidentally, wesco has a Morningstar fair value of 675, more than double it`s present stock price of 296. It is worth noting that both companies have no debt to speak of, and only Berkshire has a few stock default swaps/derivatives that are miniscule compared to it`s balance sheet. On Sep 29 04:33 PM 1996 wrote:

What's Wrong with Wesco? [view article]
Wesco and Berkshire have exactly zero "wrong" with them. Hedge funds, mutual funds, and pension funds have huge numbers of redemptions when there is this much fear in the market as indicated by the all time high VIX. They have to throw out the stock market "babies" along with the bath water and have to sell even their best stocks to redeem enough money to cover the requests. Since they are low volume stocks, any disproportionate number of sell orders will drive down the stock price to low levels. Whenever it turns around, it will return quickly to more proportionate levels. Wesco has a book value of 331/share. It is the time to BUY and I have been. Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful. Warren buffet is at his best in times like this, when he by one dollar bills for 30 or 40 cents. warren also says that the stock market is a voting machine in the short run, but a weighing machine in the long run.On Oct 10 04:18 PM JasonC650 wrote:

Same question from me. Munger is clearly one of the smartest investors of all time. I don't understand why Wesco would get disproportionately hammered. ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
Everything down today. (Ah, but it's only one day, you say.) ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
agree with a lot users here all those numbers are not up to date and don t correspond to the buying prices.I have a lot of respect for mr Buffett but please do not write false information about his returns. ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
What happened to BRKA friday with close at 147, then open Monday at +/- 133? Any thoughts appreciated. Also, I had the misunderstanding that BRK got cheaper after Warren buys "stuff". When does the sale start ? Does Wrigley, Constellation and GS not constitute a spree? ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
I bought some CNB @ 3.50 and some @ 3.80, still up so far. look for small stocks with a future. ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
The article misses the whole point of BRK. They don't look at one month returns. They look at decades of ownership...THAT is the lesson! ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
Very disingenusous to show USG up 10%, when BRK bought their position in the mid to upper $40's ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
The BRK-WTM deal is to close in the third quarter I think. ReplyBuffett's Berkshire: 14 Stocks That Have Gone Up [view article]
BRK no longer owns WTM, FWIW. Sold shares back to the company a couple of months back. Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
Do some managers consistently buy shares for more than they are worth? If so, do they make money in the long term? Reply15 Value Hedge Funds - Portfolio Update [view article]
valueinvestor123 & Jake2 - please visit my blog and read a few posts before making such statements.Fox - I simply picked 10 funds that have historically been considered value investors - and I define that as buying something for less than it is worth.
User 164258 - you are correct and the glitch is fixed on my blog. . .

I guess I am dumb like you. I think seeing what some pretty bright people are buying and selling is a pretty good place to get ideas to do my own research. It also provides a good benchmark to compare to my own portfolio. You should do some further research on whether Buffett sold COP. I saw another post that he, in fact, got an expemption from the SEC to not report is position in that stock. Therefore, it simply droppped from the list and not sold. Given that COP is pretty cheap compared to the rest and that he and Gates were up in Canada looking at oil sands, it seems unlikely that he just punched out of this position in one quarter Reply

I don't see much "value" in this kind of blanket value listing. Would prefer something more akin to e-valu-ating individual stocks, industries, etc., rather than, "Wither the hedge herd, mate?". Reply
