In recent years the industry has fragmented into many genres on many platforms, this trend will continue for some time. The overseas markets in Brazil, China, Russia and even Norway have primarily grown due to the strong demand for commodities. Companies formerly unknown to us are now household names. Indeed the likes of Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (RIO), BHP Billiton Limited (BHP), PetroChina (PTR), Rio Tinto (RTP), Statoil (STO) and others have seen gigantic returns over the last 3 years, and by most accounts, the run is not over.

While it would be much easier to write and recommend such stocks, I want to shy away as much as possible from these names, in order to keep this post both interesting and profitable for readers. Additionally, I have also tried to stay away from listing banks in emerging markets.

As countries like India, China, Poland, Chile and Vietnam (among others) mature financially, the banks in all these markets should do well with the increasing popularity of financing, mortgages and credit cards, increased consumer wealth and spending, appreciating local currencies and higher foreign investment.

Thesis
Webzen (WZEN) is a South Korean based game developer that is in the process of building a series of high profile releases from proceeds received in IPO about 2.5 years ago. They are currently trading near book value, with limited value being assigned to their attractive game porfolio going forward. Though I am excited about the prospects of the company, I can see this trading down even further, more near something approaching cash value, and would be looking to add the name on weakness before several of their big releases later this year.

Their fortunes have taken a turn for the worse lately but this is over-reflected in the current stock price. The company is currently selling for just over book value, and in spite of this is in no danger of bankruptcy for at least a few years.

Quick comment on "short interest" from The Internet Stock Blog: High
short interest can be interpreted two ways: it represents pent-up
buying demand, so it's technically bullish; but it might show that
smart investors are bearish on a stock, in which case it's bearish.
Most analysts interpret high short interest as bullish, particularly
for stocks with small floats, in which case high short interest signals
risk of a short-squeeze.

Not subscribed to The China Stock Blog? You can get updated headlines for free by adding The China Stock Blog to your My Yahoo page. Just log into your My Yahoo
short interest can be interpreted two ways: it represents pent-up
buying demand, so it's technically bullish; but it might show that
smart investors are bearish on a stock, in which case it's bearish.
Most analysts interpret high short interest as bullish, particularly
for stocks with small floats, in which case high short interest signals
risk of a short-squeeze.

Not subscribed to The China Stock Blog? You can get updated headlines for free by adding The China Stock Blog to your My Yahoo page. Just log into your My Yahoo
