More on Exide Technologies (XIDE): FQ3 bottom line misses hard, swinging to a loss as the battery maker's restructuring and impairment expenses jumped, margins tightened, and a prior-year tax benefit in France boosted last year's results. Analysts had projected the company to post a profit. Revenue however, beatStreet expectations on increased sales in motive power and network power channels in both its industrial energy segments, as well as higher aftermarket sales in the transportation business's Europe division.

More on Exide (XIDE): FQ2 misses on both counts. Net sales were negatively impacted by both foreign currency translation and lead related pricing. Gross profit declined Y/Y as well, as a combination of the high cost of spent batteries in its Americas unit coupled with a lower LME price of lead weighed on margins. Shares -6% AH.

Battery maker Exide Technologies (XIDE +2.8%) powers back into the green from an early pre-market pasting that had the shares down over 13% on the back of wider FQ1 losses that disappointed the Street. The company attributes the miss to a substantial valuation-allowance charge and lighter revenue, as it contends with steep restructuring expenses, weak demand and higher input costs.

More on Exide Technologies' FQ3: Unit volumes for the aftermarket car battery business fell 13% Y/Y, contributing to Exide's top-line miss. Moreover, Exide warns it expects FY12 operating income to be less than previously forecast, due to poor auto and industrial battery sales, and it won't provide specific guidance for the forseeable future. Exide also had a disappointing earnings report in November. XIDE -19.8% AH. (PR)
