- Monday, May 6, 1:36 PM Merck (MRK -1.3%) gets no love today from the FDA's approval of Liptruxet late Friday, as the stock is likely dragged down with the rest of the big pharma names on the back of a CNBC report that criticizes their earnings so far. The article points to the fact that pharmaceutical companies have seen a 4.7% contraction in earnings, and a 3.2% drop in revenue this quarter. Why? Morningstar's Damien Cover says there are two primary reasons: FX impact, especially from the yen, and intensified generic competition from patent losses. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 11, 2:08 PM Healthcare and biotech ETFs continue to churn higher again today, hitting new 52-week highs across the board: Health Care SPDR (XLV +1%), Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT +0.9%), iShares Dow Jones US Healthcare (IYH +0.9%),. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (IBB +1.3%). 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 19, 9:39 AM It's not just Humana (-9.6%) suffering from prospective declines in reimbursement rates for Medicare Advantage plans in 2014, with UnitedHealth (UNH) -5.2%, Cigna (CI) -5.5%, Aetna (AET) -3.5% and Universal America (UAM) -8.95%. 7 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 11:36 AM Health insurers take a pummeling after Wellpoint's (WLP -12%) miserable Q2 report, even though some analysts say that the company has specific challenges. Citigroup's Carl McDonald reckons management could come under pressure. Still, HealthNet (HNT) -10%, UnitedHealth (UNH) -5.6%, Coventry (CVH) -4.9%, Humana (HUM) -3%, Cigna (CI) -3.9% and Aetna (AET) -4.9%. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 10:53 AM Pharmaceutical stocks are down following the Supreme Court healthcare opinion, although not dramatically: AZN -0.4%, GSK -1.6%, SNY -0.8%, PFE -0.8%, ABT -0.8%, MRK -0.7%, LLY -1%, WPI -0.9%, NVS -0.7%, JNJ -0.4%. iShares Dow Jones US Healthcare ETF (IYH) -0.95%, the Health Care SPDR (XLV) is -1.3%. 2 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]

- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 10:22 AM Healthcare stocks that are down following the Supreme Court opinion on the Healthcare Act include: CVH -1.3%, UNH -1.1%, AET -1.2%, CI -1.5%, CHSI -0.5%, WLP -2.5%, HUM -2%. Those that are up include: UAM +0.8%, MOH +6.3%, HNT +3.1%. 1 Comment [Breaking News, Top Stories, Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 3:05 PM Have a hankering to play the Obamacare ruling? It's risky, but if you must, here are a couple non-levered long-only ETF's ideas that traders are currently focused on: The Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV +1.1%) and the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Medical Devices Index Fund (IHI +1.6%). For the aggressive type, there are levered ETF's like: ProShares Ultra Health Care ETF (RXL +2.4%), or the Direxion Daily Healthcare Bull 3X Shares (CURE +4.5%). The tools are out there, how you use them is all up to you. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 12, 2012, 9:50 AM Molina Healthcare (MOH +4.4%) catches a bounce as Merrill says Texas will contract with incumbent Medicaid HMO providers for "dual eligible" individuals. Notable calls says it's good news for the big players in Texas (MOH, CNC, AGP), and suggests the news from Ohio - which caused a drubbing this week - could be an isolated data point. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, March 29, 2012, 3:24 PM The DJIA pokes its head into the green after being down nearly 100 points earlier. The S&P 500 (-0.3%) and Nasdaq (-0.3%) remain slightly negative. Leading on the upside are the health insurers as analysts conclude it's bullish if the Obamacare mandate is struck down and bullish if it's upheld. Sweet! 3 Comments [On the Move, Healthcare]
- Wednesday, June 29, 2011, 11:32 AM Transcept Pharmaceuticals (TSPT +5.9%) jumps on an upgrade from Lazard. The firm expects FDA approval in July for its Intermezzo insomnia treatment, designed to treat intermittent waking vs. peers Ambien (SNY) and Lunesta (SEPR), which require at least seven hours for heavy sleep. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, June 24, 2011, 11:11 AM Durect (DRRX -28%) is another casualty of the FDA's rejection of Remoxy. Its technology - designed to discourage common methods of tampering - was used to develop the drug. PTIE -37%, PFE -1.5%. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 23, 2011, 10:57 AM Needham downgrades Sagent Pharmaceuticals (SGNT -6.15%) on valuation, saying it's already reached the 12-month price target set when it initiated coverage three weeks ago. The stock is up 62% since its April IPO. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, June 22, 2011, 3:03 PM ResMed (RMD -3.7%) tumbles after Deutsche Bank downgrades the stock in an afternoon research note. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, June 17, 2011, 3:46 PM GenMark Diagnostics (GNMK +42%) soars on heavy volume after pricing its 7.07M share secondary offering at $4.25, slightly below Thursday's close. The deal was heavily over-subscribed and removes an overhang that has been pressuring the stock for the past week. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]

If inflation was a problem, the weakest sector ttm wouldn't be $XLB $XLE $XLF, strongest $XLK $XLY $XLV. See http://bit.ly/6A4AdX - View all 0 replies

Tas 2010: Granted there is lots of bad news in the world. But let's also assess all the good news in the world. This is a stock pickers market. -

If its a real trend up, why are Treasury (TLT) yields still at panic levels? Defensive sectors (XLU, XLV, XLP) outperforming for the week? - View all 3 replies

Unlike prior "whipsaws" defensive sector performance XLP, XLU, XLV all confirm a transition is happening. Conditions for Fall Melt-Up. - View all 11 replies
