Chinese Tech Stock Weekly Summary (Sept. 22 - 29) [view article]
I should have mentioned that LDK has extensive long term contracts. Many of these have some price guarantee build in to them, especially the near term ones. This means LDK should be relatively immune to the coming slowdown. It shoudl be a great stock to own for the next 12 months, if not for several years to come. Reply

Chinese Tech Stock Weekly Summary (Sept. 22 - 29) [view article]
Solar stocks should get a push upward if the bailout bill passes the house. Improving the credit crunch will improve solar prospects. It will tend to allow oil to rise (or stay at elevated levels), which is also good for solar stocks. But which of them should do well into the future? LDK is well diversified geographically. LDK's margins are likely to expand in the very near future, so they will have room to go down again as the solar market becomes more competitive. LDK is building its own polysilicone plant. This should help margins. Further LDK is one of the leaders in adopting UMG solar manufacturing. This too should help their margins. LDK looks to go up in the current environment. CSIQ also looks promising. It has some geographical exposure issues. However, it too is one of the leaders in UMG solar manufacturing. This should allow it to have increased margins in the near term. Then those margins will allow it to remain competitive in the coming shakeout in the solar industry. It should go up nicely from its current price if the bailout bill (with the 8 year solar tax credit extension) passes. Reply

eBay is Hapless - Cramer's Lightning Round (9/11/08) [view article]
Ebay has done it again....they have shown their true colors one more time. They do not want small auction sellers on their site anymore, this is obvious. ONLINEAUCTION.COM (OLA.COM) is a wonderful alternative! More and more ex-ebay sellers are showing up there everyday. The users are friendly and helpful. Customer service is outstanding! You have your choice of payment types, plus you control your auctions!
ONLINEAUCTIONS is the bright, shining light from beneath the dark ebay cloud!!

Has the Sun Set on Solar Energy Stocks? [view article]
"Is SPWR becoming the Government main contractor for installing solar systems on Federal sites.
They just completed installing a solar electric system on top of the roof top for the Dept of Energy Federal Building in Washington D.C. Sun power has also installed solar system for other government agencies such as the US Navy in Hawaii and Calf, The US Postal Service, and Air Force bases.
They have under contract to build a Solar system at Kennedy Space center site.
The company has no debt and over the last 3 months insiders have purchased a net 56.0K shares. This is in stark contrast to the 2-year quarterly average where insiders are net sellers and indicates that insiders are more bullish about SPWR's prospects for the next 6-12 months.
They need no Gov tax incentives...The Gov is paying them for their solar systems. "

While the government is buying the panels, the administration will change and therefore they probably will lose their contracts. Usually happens in these cases.

Now where are you getting that the insiders have purchased shares? That is an out and out lie. They have been selling. Cypress sold 2.5 million shares.

Atkins, Shughar, Swanson, Richards, Wood and Werner have been selling just like Mozillo of countrywide. Does anyone else see the same thing going on here? You all remember Mozillo right? Just like the guys at Thornberg and Jack Yetiv and the other pumpers here.

Solar is a great idea, but these p/e's are way out of line. This one will be in the 20's by January.

As long as oil remain under $130 p.b. Solar ideas will get
nowhere. That's a painful fact. As long as gasoline remain under $4.00 per gallon, people don't give a damn.

Yep eBay is on it's way out, unless you just want to buy mass produced junk. But then, there's Wal-mart for that. For unique, unusual and hard-to-find items, many long-time sellers and buyers are turning to OnlineAuction.com, also known as OLA.com. Growing daily by leaps and bounds! Reply

Rarely is volitility an issue when vaulting. Markets are populated by folks with differing time horizons, even if they agree on the trend. Some want to run forward toward the engine and some back toward the cabose, yet all are on the same train. Reply

Dr. Duru, thank you for your comments and clarifications. It is indeed alarming that so many solar stocks have fallen to new lows.
    Zenfar & gebby:
An investment misunderstanding I've had is that I didn't realize that guesses about political outcomes would move stock prices so very much.
However that may be, what is disappointing about my solar investments is that their stock prices are more subject to short term interest in trading and less interest in the long term need for clean renewable energy.
A mistake I made in investing in clean energy stocks as a long term play is that, while I knew they would be volitile, I hadn't realized that good ideas, prospects and products may not be rewarded in this market environment.
Even so, I'm net up in my clean energy portfolio, which I've held for 20+ months. That it is well diversified and that I 'bought low' are the reasons I'm ahead.
Overall, I intend to "remain long" with my portfolio and to buy good companies on the dips.
