The trouble with your analysis is you assume MSFT can retain any of YHOO's users. Reply

You should kill your Yahoo email account and swap your home page to Google anyway. They're better. And that's exactly the point... Reply

Microsoft/Yahoo Deal Should Go Through [view article]

    AOL /Time-Warner.

Just look at Ballmer. Does this look like a man with even the tiniest shred of vision or competence?

Google: A Buy On MSFT/YHOO News? [view article]
    Three words: AOL/Time-Warner.

But even worse: if the deal goes through, it will be a HUGE gift to Google. All Yahoo's users will remember how badly MSFT managed HotMail and will migrate to GMail. Millions of people (like me) who set Yahoo as their homepage since, maybe 1993, will switch to Google.

And when all the Yahoo USERS migrate to Google? I don't think Ballmer has taken this into account. Looks like a good time to add some Google stock! Reply

Microsoft Takeover Bid for Yahoo! [view article]
This is like trying to catch the wind in your hands; they may buy Yahoo, but the VALUE of Yahoo will drop to zero. I've had a Yahoo Email account for something like 15 years. I use Yahoo as my homepage. I have a Flickr account. None of these will be true if the deal goes through. MSFT destroys everything it touches-- look at HotMail; Spyglass; Bungie. How could anyone ever expect their accounts to be secure, when MSFT has no credibility on data security issues, for one thing?

Maybe the EU will slap a big fat "Non!" on the deal. We can hope. I expect the little puppy dogs we call "leaders" in Washington will just roll over on their backs and drool.

MSFT would be out a lot of cash and Yahoo would totally go to c**p and would lose all it's users. Very simple. Reply

"Because at that price, no financial buyer can make the deal work, particularly in this financing environment."

Which begs the question: is paying a 70% premium for YHOO a wise use of Microsoft's cash?

Microsoft/Yahoo Deal Should Go Through [view article]
...whereas MSFT can since its profitability and stock price are still strong, because businesses aren't yet read to move to open source software, Apple's superior OS and/or Google Apps.

But Windows and Office are decaying, and MSFT is making no headway on the 'Net. So it needs to use its cash flow and currency to bolster its position, before it's too late.

The question now is whether one broken company can fix another broken company.
