DoJ reportedly sends letters to at least a dozen major computer firms (including YHOO, GOOG, AAPL) about a possible tech hiring pact. If the firms agreed not to poach each other's employees, they'd be in violation of the country's oldest antitrust law.

Former Yahoo (YHOO) CFO Blake Jorgensen, who departed Yahoo as part of new CEO Carol Bartz's reorganization, winds up in denim: As of July 1 he'll be the new CFO and exec VP of Levis Strauss & Co. [PR] Guess that means he won't have to keep stretching his $1.8 million severance package; whew.

Yahoo (YHOO) unveils 'WOO,' a series of search products built around the idea the internet is a 'web of objects.' Great, but the problem with Yahoo trying to innovate its way out of second place in search is that it just can't beat Google's (GOOG) simplicity.

Compete.com's April search data also shows Google's (GOOG) seach market lead broadening (see comScore's data). But - more significantly - sponsored referrals relative to query volume fell a sharp 0.6 points to 6.2% from 6.8%, and Yahoo (YHOO) saw a similar drop. Possible culprits: search marketer cutbacks and improved targeting.

Google (GOOG) grabbed another 0.5 points of the U.S. search market in April, comScore says, moving to 64.2%, while Yahoo (YHOO) and Microsoft (MSFT) each shed 0.1 points, and AOL (TWX) slid 0.3. One big reason Google (GOOG) is at the top of WSJ's list this morning of companies who should be worried about increased antitrust efforts.
