  • Is The New Samsung Phone An 'iPhone Killer'? [View article]
I think it is an "all other Androids" killer. You can probably add in Nokia too.

  • The Curse Of Being No. 1 [View article]
It appears that the new #1 is Google. Of course this is merely a market perception, but nonetheless has significant impact. However, I think this is the best thing that could happen to Apple. Eventually Apple will cease to be the #1 target of criticism for everything the do and especially what they don't do. Within a year or two Google will take this mantle. Apple will continue to do what it does best and remain a bit under the pundits radar. Again, that is only good for Apple.

  • Why Apple Doesn't Care About Its Competition [View article]
I think the primary motivator for Apple to introduce the iPad Mini is educational use.

  • Why Apple Doesn't Care About Its Competition [View article]
Why should Apple try to compete on price with the Nexus, Kindle & Nook tablets? Google and Amazon admit they sell theirs at cost and Barnes & Noble surely cannot be making anything on the Nook.

As I read this week: Apple sells premium products at premium prices to premium customers.

They should never change that business model.

  • Why Apple Doesn't Care About Its Competition [View article]
Technology journalists and geeks have forgotten how to be real people (perhaps the latter never were real people in the first place). Most real people purchase non-essential items primarily based on intangibles, not a matrix of features of similar products. They also probably have never read anything written by technological journalists and geeks about the phones, tablets, computers, etc. that they buy. Perhaps that's why they are still real people.

  • The Apple Confusion [View article]
Coca Cola's brand value is based on something anyone in the world can put in their hand for less than $1. Apple has accomplished much more by having the second most valuable brand for products that cost at least 100 times more!

  • The Apple Confusion [View article]
Excellent article! It amazes me on a daily basis how uninformed so many investors are about Apple. The fund managers continue to take them to the cleaners and, it seems, these investors never learn!

  • Nokia's (NOK) flagship Lumia 900 smartphone will be launched by AT&T (T) on March 18 at a subsidized price of just $100, according to a roadmap obtained by BGR. Such aggressive pricing could give Windows Phone (MSFT) a momentum boost in its struggle to take share from iOS (AAPL) and/or Android (GOOG), and could also signal AT&T's commitment to making the platform a success. (previously)  [View news story]
This sounds like excellent timing, just as millions of Android phone owners find that they cannot upgrade their phone to ICS. The Lumina 900 could be an Android killer.

  • "Awe-inspiring," "stellar," "blowout" and "blockbuster,” are just some of the superlatives gushing from the keyboards of analysts following Apple's (AAPL) jaw-dropping (and there's one from us) FQ1. MarketBeat rounds up the love-fest as Ticonderoga's sets a "devilish" price target of $666, while Hudson's is $700. Shares +6.2% to $446.56. (earlier: I, II)  [View news story]
Steve Jobs' superlative might have been "flummoxed"
Definition: Perplex (someone) greatly; bewilder: "he was completely flummoxed by the question".

It doesn't look like the Kindle Fire hurt iPad sales much! Also, Android phone sales are on the decline.

  • Apple Still Winning In Smartphones, Woz Notwithstanding [View article]
It will be interesting to see, if Apple reveals it, the breakdown between iPhone 3gs, 4 & 4s sales. I believe this three phone strategy covering all price points has a lot to do with the leveling between iOS and Android.

  • Apple (AAPL) will pay Elan Microelectronics, a Taiwanese touch design company, $5M to settle a patent infringement suit. The companies will also exchange authorizations to use each other's patents.  [View news story]
On the face of it this looks like a win for Apple - only $5 million to get licensed for patents they can use.

  • Apple (AAPL) announces that the iPhone 4S will be available in China beginning on Jan. 13. CEO Tim Cook says customer response in the nation of 1.3B people has been "off the charts." [View news story]
When Apple gets China Mobile on board they may sell 100m iPhones annually in China. China Mobile will have to drop its demand for sharing in App Store revenue first. Perhaps losing customers to their competitor will change their mind.

  • Nokia's (NOK) rumored Ace smartphone will be the focus of a $100M marketing campaign from Nokia, Microsoft (MSFT), and AT&T (T), claims BetaNews, as the companies spare no effort to bolster Windows Phone's prospects. One unanswered question is whether the Ace, which is believed to feature a 4G modem and a 1.4 GHz. Qualcomm (QCOM) Snapdragon CPU, will lead Nokia to cut the Lumia 800's steep price tag.  [View news story]
If Microsoft/Nokia is successful in establishing a market for WP7.5/8 it will be at the expense of Android phone manufacturers (except Samsung) and BlackBerry. I don't think many Apple customers are in a hurry to switch to Windows anything!
