Sorry about the mistakes. That is what I get for rushing to get a post out. I have asked to get the numbers corrected.

Buy, Sell, or Hold Fertilizer Stocks: Agriculture Bust (Part II)
I have owned a couple of good financial companies that were pulled down along with everything else in the sector. PEs dropped below 5. The same could happen with the ag stocks. Product pricing increases will level and even more investors will bail out. I think there is still room to fall to maybe 50% off the highs.

      EPA Rejects Congress's Ethanol Waiver
Corn is off 35% from recent highs as ethanol production continues to grow. I think this issue has passed. Nothing will change except ethanol companies will start making some profits.

Reuters: Who's Buying Distressed Debt - And Why
Under what circumstances would the world come to an end? Home prices in the worst markets are down 25-30%. 50% default + 50% paid off + whatever interest is earned = 85 cents on the dollar.

The companies that buy the distressed debt and avoid the fraudulent garbage are going to make out like crazy!

      Back again.

I am happy that my investment in VeraSun Energy is up 65% in the last 5 weeks.

And Mr. Subsidy Eye, I see you are Swiss based. Are you interested in U.S. investing or using Seeking Alpha for another agenda?

      Subsidy Eye,
I appreciate your comments on my "analysis". You have valid points. I will reply on the acreage note, looking at the graphs is is fairly obvious that from 06 to 07 farmers elected to plant corn instead of soybeans. Note that soybean acreage fell quite a bit. I grew up in Iowa and farmers their plant either corn or soybeans depending on what they believe will be most profitable. Also, the first graph in you link shows total planted acreage for all crops pretty level for the last several years and well below the amount planted in the 1980's.

In regards to Brazilian ethanol I find it very hard to believe that the U.S. Congress would ever pass legislation that would benefit Brazilian agriculture at the disadvantage of U.S. farmers. Think about it.

Archer Daniels Midland Operating Profits Continue to Grow
From my research, Brazil is on track to export about 700 million gallons of ethanol to the U.S. in 2008. I think the comment above that the ethanol will come in spite of the tariff is probably correct, so Uncle Sam might has well collect his cut.

The comments above gives me a continued positive outlook for my investment in VeraSun Energy, earnings out next week!

I looked at this stock a year ago. It seems a reasonably profitable company whose stock goes no where. I see no reason why this is, but also no compelling reason to buy the stock.

Merrill's Muddled Analysis: Another Reason I'm Bullish on Financials
Tom, keep the articles coming. I just love to read the comments. XLF up 30% from the bottom and only 7 banks have failed this year. The great financial collapse that so many seem to hope for will not happen. Financials will recover until the quants come up with the next great bubble idea in 10-15 years.

Potash Corp., Agrium Caught in Industry-Wide Downturn
POT is in a commodity business the same as the oil companies. The market believes the commodity rally is over and selling all commodity based stocks. As one of the most visible companies in the sector, POT is subject to continued selling pressure as long at commodities in general: grains, oil, metals, continue to erode. It is not inconceivable that POT could fall to 5 times 2008 earnings. Many financial companies with no exposure to the mortgage problems and continuing good business fell to less than 5 times earnings before the recent rally.

LUK shareholders get a 20% discount on wines. Pine Ridge is in the Stags Leap district, where some of the best cabernet sauvignon comes from and their's definitely rates! I also think their chardonnay is the best in California, rivaling the really good French whites.
