The real problem is that almost none of us will bother to write our political representatives and force them to take action against this prime example of "wretched excess".

Is Buy and Hold Dead?

I believe in buy and hold and re investing dividends but that philosophy is certainly now causing me pain. I am retired with no spare cash and my dividends have been slashed. I have always been 100% in common stocks and will try and remain so but I agree the the media hysteria and their need for a "new product" virtually every hour causes market turmoil as their psychological impact creates uncertainty. Throw in program trading and it becomes a real mess.
I think the future will be great. There are hundreds and hundreds of million of potential new consumers out there waiting for the wherewithal to buy and their time will come. Prosperity will return to the marketplace after this correction.
Real investors who believe in the future will always be buy and holders.
