  • Why Apple's China Mobile Launch Was A Flop [View article]
Hey Michael, I don't think you're being very honest or transparent. Here's a direct quote from your Oct 23, 2013 article:

" I am short Apple calls at $515 strike with a January 2014 expiry. I may add to the short by shorting the stock on any strength. "

So, if you were sincere, you'd have increased your short given AAPL's "strength" since October. How's that position working out for you Michael???

The NYT article has been conclusively debunked. If you did even a small amount of research, you'd have found dozens of reports and photos to the contrary. Therefore, one can only conclude that your research is shoddy at best, and at worst intentionally misleading.

  • 2014 Outlook: No Apple iPhone Killer [View article]
@hko2012.....Comparing Bently/Bugatti to Apple is not a good comparison. How many people own Bently's? Maybe a few tens of thousands. How many people own an iPhone? About 500 million and growing.
Apple makes affordable products that look great, and are all about quality. People who can't afford a $700 phone every three years, can't afford the voice/data plans and should avoid mobile devices all together. Over a 3 yr period you'll spend over $2,500 on voice & data, so buying a cheap phone to save a couple of hundred bucks doesn't make any sense. That's why Apple keeps selling more and more iPhones.

  • Nobody Is Short Apple [View article]
MB claims he was shorting Apple as it dipped below $400 ( shortly before Apple began its ascent to $560). I think he's full of hot air. Clearly, he's no options expert if he thinks a $500 Put is in the money when the stock is at $536.

  • Apple: Dangers Of Misreading Smartphone Data [View article]
Thanks for providing the data to back up your comments. Too many authors (i.e. Mr. Arnold over at Cheat Sheet) publish their biased and/or erroneous conclusions with few facts, making it difficult for the average reader to spot their poorly constructed arguments.

  • Samsung Is Apple's Worst Nightmare [View article]
Ashraf, your profit margins for Samsung must be wrong. If Samsung sells more phones than Apple and also has similar or higher profit margins than Apple, then clearly Samsung would be making more money than Apple..... Yet we know this isn't true, so you might want to double check your Samsung profit margins.

You use an iPhone 5S? Really?

So in your comparison of the Samsung Note to the iPhone 5S you simply "forgot" to include the fingerprint scanner. This feature alone outweighs the larger screen and bigger RAM of the Note. The fingerprint scanner is innovation. Adding more RAM and bigger screens is not innovation. Through its acquisitions, Apple owns the fingerprint technology. I think Samsung should be worried.

Such a shoddy comparison from someone who claims to use an iPhone 5S.

Ed, great article! This is the second article of yours that I've read, and in both cases I've learned something. SA needs more authors of your calibre.

  • Apple's New iPads Are Out And They Are Gorgeous: Sell The News [View article]

"Entertaining"....... Yes, if you are looking for comedy. Not so much if you are looking for investment advice.

  • How Apple Won The War For Education [View article]
Too late. Most advanced iPad users have already found suitable replacements for Office. Perhaps IT departments will embrace Office for iPad, but I suspect uptake will be modest at best.

  • How Apple Won The War For Education [View article]
    @Michael Blair...
"I see Microsoft making a big push into schools...." Really? What leads you to this conclusion? Microsoft couldn't even sell 2-million Surfaces in almost a year, and that's after huge price reductions over the last few months. Microsoft just doesn't get it. They think they'll steal market share by creating a device can be used as both a tablet and a laptop. However, all they've managed to do is create a crappy tablet experience along with an under-powered laptop experience. Also, much like Android, Microsoft has few educational apps. So, I don't see Microsoft gaining any. Meaningful market share in education.

Oh....and this notion that Surface is set to skyrocket because it's the only tablet that can run MS Office.....guess what? Nobody cares. Most tablet users have found great Office replacements. I couldn't care less about running Office on my iPad. The only thing I need Office for is for the massive spreadsheets I work with on my desktop. I wouldn't want to work on these massive spreadsheets on a tablet....that's what desktops are for.

  • Apple Should Consider Buying Nuance And Here's Why [View article]
Ituchwon.....You are absolutely right. I think Apple knew it's maps were not ready for prime time. But they had to release it in order to force Google's hand. Google was creating new versions of Google map for Android with lots of new feature, but refused to do so for Apple. So Apple booted them off of iOS 6 and when Google saw the drop in revenue caused by 250-million iOS users dropping out of Google maps, they had no choice but to create a new and much improved version of maps for Apple. It took less than 3 months! This was a chess game that Apple won.

  • Several Catalysts For Beleaguered Apple [View article]
Good question. If there are no regulatory issues then selling puts would be solid enhancement of Apple's buy back strategy.

You might want to underscore the word "sell" because I suspect some readers might not understand options very well, and simply assume the use of puts always implies a bearish strategy. Writing puts (selling) is actually moderately bullish.
