Put it this way , when most people invest including the poor , they tend to buy shares of companies making money like (AAPL). How come most don't bother to invest in struggling biotech companies researching a cure for a disease. However as soon as they fall ill and find out the cost of drugs that can save their lives , they will label drug companies evil. How about offering to donate that $1 on your tax returns to the drug companies instead of some idiotic political parties. If you are an early investor in a biotech company, you are very likely to lose all your investment or have it diluted but does the general public care about that ? Hell NO!
When Gilead paid $11B for pharmasset did the general public care that the cure for Heparisis C would be expensive and that the investment would have to be recouped?. Before I started investing in biotech, I had same feeling as you but having gone thru so many and knowing how tough it is to develop a working drug, I became a changed man.
Stop making the assumption that every sick person is poor.A lot of poor people will rather buy a 60inch tv than to donate a $1 to a biotech company asking for funding. I am poor but I believe we as a society have to prioritize what is important to us. Drug companies are not charities.

They can get away with such irresponsibility due to the high level of government corruption in Nigeria. They would not try such in a developed nation due to fines for any spill. Ogoni is a mess because of Shell, who also masterminded the execution of the Ken Saro Wiwa .

Well if people can pay a couple million dollars for a Bugatti , I see nothing wrong in paying a million for a life saving drug especially if the disease is rarer than a Bugatti

  • Vulture hedge funds bet on coal mining bankruptcies [View news story]
A bad way to trade. If a company has a very high likelihood of going into bankruptcy due to huge debts, being oversold based on charts does not matter. Most of the time any slight upswing you see are shorts bidding it up to increase profit when it finally goes bankrupt.

  • InvenSense -26.2% AH on FQ2 miss, guidance, GM drop [View news story]
The MEMS, INVN supplied AAPL was not a new one par se . It is a slight modification of the one that they have been supplying samsung for more than 2 yrs and and not an entirely new design. Also isn't INVN a fabless company now and already contracting out the manufacture of the chips to others?( haven't invested in it in like 2yrs, after 2nd Q reports since ipo). I would love you to name any AAPL supplier out there that has been successful in demanding more money from {AAPL) over time other than Samsung. It is very smart @ playing "divide & conquer" with her suppliers & partners.
What AAPL does is also similar to what Dell did in her early days selling computers with her build to order approach. It avoided all the cost, risk, inventory headaches and disadvantages of manufacturing itself and also avoided margin erosion by avoiding sales thru retail stores. As soon as her competitors caught up & started doing same , Dell lost it's edge & never recovered.
AAPL is the only hardware company (likes to fool itself as mostly a software company) I know that does not manufacture anything but makes more than 80% of it's profit from hardware.
Can you imagine a car manufacturer that does not have any factory whatsoever and it is still able to sell millions of cars.

What part of "a shift in revenue mix towards lower margin, high volume customers", did some of the irrational long missed?. Knew 2yrs ago, getting the (AAPL) deal was not gonna be that much of a boost to their bottom line bcos of the well known parasitic relationship (AAPL) has with it's suppliers. With the Iphone 6 using 2 different MEMS to conserve battery power & possibly cost, I have a lot of feeling other manufacturers will start adopting same approach. Hence, this ensures inventory of lower margin 6 & 3 axis continues but also slows the adoption of the higher margin 9axis MEMS. Also remember they were hoping to monopolize the 9axis market which will ensure higher ASP(average selling price),but if high adoption rate is missing , other competitors will be out with theirs by the time that tech is the norm & price competition will ensue.

Even though I like AAPl for being able to efficiently reduce COGS but it also stifles a lot of it's suppliers and long term that is not a good relationship. Other than Samsung & Foxconn(to a degree), most suppliers have a tough time calling their relationship with AAPl as being very beneficial long term. I believe this will come to bite AAPL if & when love of consumers for anything AAPl starts waning, same thing happened to MSFT in her heydays. APPL nickle dimes every partner from cellphone carriers, suppliers, to musicians and has the profit every Q to show for it. No one wants a partner that does not share
