  • Lanny's Recent Purchase: Archer Daniels Midland (X2)  [View article]
I bought ADM around $31.50 on Friday. I am not going to build large position on this stock, but I am ok with ADM being 2 to 2.5% of my portfolio. Friday was my first purchase. I can make one more purchase (double current position) if ADM drops 8 to 10% from Friday closing price.

  • BHP Billiton's Increasing Dividend Risk  [View article]
People mostly who invested in LNCO or ARP were for dividend only. This is not the case in BBL. Also BBL is price too low and starting a position here will give big capital gain plus high dividend when commodity cycle turn around. If some one started position in BBL at $50, yes they don't have much to gain here but some one starting position under $20 and average it down will have big capital gain in long term when cycle go in upswing. The thing is you have wait and don't look when it goes down.

  • BHP Billiton's Increasing Dividend Risk  [View article]
Everyone knows they will cut the dividend. Its price into the stock. Even if they cut by half its still good dividend, value or rebound play within next 2-3 years. Its a no brainer to start a position now and to average down.

  • Kinder Morgan: A Dividend Growth Post-Mortem Discussion  [View article]
I bought it during SEP to DEC DIP and stop buying since Friday noon. I was down as much as 30% but now down by 22%. Not a good Christmas gift. I feel like I am pushed back from my year end goal. Its like 2 or 3 step forward and 1 step back with dividend growth investors like me. I knew the risk. I knew the total asset value vs equity and debt. I have to reconsider concentration positions that I hold. I have 40 securities but top 20 holds 80% of the weight. I have stop blaming myself as of today and move forward and will dispose KMI slowly next year. I don't know if I want to hold growth utility in my portfolio.

I also have to reduce EPD and ETP that I bought within last two weeks and reconsider MLP / REIT dividend risk.

KMI was 6% of my income now down to 1% of my income. Losing 5% of income do feel pushed back from my goal.

Its good that I was buying KO, PEP, JNJ, XOM, HSY etc and now putting KMI type of companies as a toppings from last few months only. I never liked high yields but for what ever reason dip my toe just recently and burned.

  • Kinder Morgan, Inc.: Trying To Separate Facts From Sentiment  [View article]
we all loved KMI few months ago or infact just before one week ago. Fact wise, nothing has changed except Moody put them on negative watch. Due to this they may cut some of there dividend amount.

Otherwise nothing has change. They pay almost all their earning to dividend, they have high debt, and they have to spend capital if they choose to go with there current expantion projects.

  • Yum! Brands: Time To Consider?  [View article]
I don't like Taco Bell spin off. Taco Bell is hedge against weak China and US currency and KFC is hedge against weak US sells. I like diversified business. I like their 12% dividend increase and with today's price you get 2.75% current dividend and 10% dividend growth. I like Yum!

I also been buying EMR but it keeps going down and if we have big correction then yield can approach even 6% so I would not rush into it.

  • Getting Defensive: Raising Cash In A Volatile Market  [View article]
I made moves very similar to yours on Aug 24th and 25th, but I roll over money from lower dividend yield to higher dividend yield right away and from lower blue cheap to higher blue cheap stocks.

I still don't have any cash, but I got value on Aug 24th. Now market is higher and if it stays like this you may not get chance to reinvest your cash reserve that you build until mid 2016 and by that time its possible you might redo the same mean re-buy lower yielding stocks again, because we have no rate cut and those high yield will move up again.

  • Chevron At 5% Dividend Yield - Is It Finally Time To Fill Up The Tank, Or Is The Tank Empty For Good?  [View article]
I am long CVX with hope that oil will end its slide and move to reasonable trading range. CVX is a great company, and may be the second best energy company on this planet but for it to be profitable oil has to be higher then $41.

Oil industry is very scary right now. I can only sleep well with XOM as of right now. I am very long XOM, CVX, EPD and BP and also long other oil companies with very small position.

  • Retirement Strategy: The Oil Crash Could Be A Dividend Growth Investor's Best Friend Of The Decade  [View article]
Long both XOM and CVX with 500 shares in each. I have no idea where oil price may end up in next 2 years but I do know the fact that oil consumption is going up every year, reserves are going down but supply is going up as well as technologies in oil exploration is evolving.

With better wold in future, more countries get industrialized and more people are consuming energy in emerging market, I am hoping that XOM and CVX will survive, prserv, adopt, invest and do better in future.
