  • Berkshire Hathaway Stock Portfolio: At Risk of Resembling an Index Fund? [View article]
".... There are the rights-of-way, which you can’t get rid of. So there’s no issue about having to earn a return on them because you have to keep it in the business, and because there’s nothing they can do with those rights-of-way. ..."

VERY short-sighted! Get rid of the rights of way?! There are lot's of things one can do with the rights-of- way BNI owns....limited only by one's imagination.

  • 22 Dividend Stocks with Good Fundamentals  [View article]
Methinks you better revisit the definition of the word "fundamentals". Hint: It is NOT an synonym for "Stock Scouter Rating"....or yield chasing.

  • NBC Refuses Pickens Plan Ad [View article]
jcordes, isn't it amazing when the shoe is on the other foot! When the Democrats stall things in a "Republican" Congress ( including drilling, refineries, nuclear, etc., , the Congress is deemed "do nothing"; when it happens the other way around, it's "gridlock" from those bad old Republicans.

    Dontcha just love double standards!?!

  • Does Buy-and-Hold Work on Major Blue Chips? [View article]
One postscript along the selected statistics line...why does one company's chart start in 2000 and another in 1998?

  • Does Buy-and-Hold Work on Major Blue Chips? [View article]
When one selects the Blue Chips and the time period they want to prove a pre-determined point, it is hardly a surprise that the point is "proven". (BTW, since when is 7+years considered "long-term"?)

An analysis of all the Blue Chips as a group, over at least 15- 20 years, which includes dividends might be more revealing of the truth than a selective analysis that starts at an overheated market peak.

  • Fixing Pfizer [View article]
".... "I took 500 mg pills of niacin daily for a few weeks in my 20s over 30 years ago and it definitely made (me) red, hot and tingly. Gave it to my brother as he did not believe me. Half-hour later he had the same issues."...

Just a bit of an update regarding this issue...you can now get flush-free, timed-release niacin, which avoids this issue for most. I was put on Lipitor some years ago, which helped drive my genetically-high LDL down to the 190 range from the 290 range. Upon my older brother's advice, I started taking a 500 mg flush-free niacin capsule, plus a 1000 mg fish oil concentrate gel cap ( fatty acids ) every day ( in addition to continuing Lipitor ). My LDL has reached it's lowest level ever..in the 160 range.
