    Hi all,
M* has some depressing things to say today about NOV's prospects and bumped NOV down to narrow moat from wide moat. Does anyone think that M* will move the market?

  • The Most Predictable REITs In 2015 [View article]
    Dear Brad,
Happy, healthy New Year to you, and thank you so much for all that you do.
I live in LA and am watching apartment buildings go up seemingly everywhere.
I know IRT operates elsewhere ( KY and TN, e.g.), but do you think it is worthy of an investment ( obviously, you don't think it is too worthy, or it would appear in your rankings)?
    Thanks,
    Judy

When you sell GLD after holding it over a year in a taxable account do you get a long term capital loss?

Even so, lords, it's interesting to hear what the so-called smart money is, or purports to be, doing.
    Nice summary, Mr. Alper. Thanks.

  • What To Do When Your Energy Stocks Are Getting Hammered [View article]
Aaaaaaaaack! I meant to say XEC, not XLE. My deceased husband bought XEC many years ago. I don't know what his basis was. It's in a taxable account. It isn't one of the majors, but Morningstar says it's a solid company. Any advice? Thanks to all who commented on XLE--sorry about that.

  • Income Investor Tips For Tax-Loss Harvesting [View article]
Thanks for this article. I "caught a falling knife" with SLB ( bought when the price decreased, but then it REALLY decreased). The loss is short term. Should I harvest this loss, or does it have no value? I am anticipating capital gains distributions from the mutual funds I own because the market is so rich, and would like to be able to set these off but I have no long term losses.

My deceased husband bought XLE many years ago -- i don't know what his basis was. I DO know it is worth a lot less today than it was the day before the Saudi decision. Any advice? Thanks.

  • The One Sector You Must Own Today (Part 3 Of 3) [View article]
Yikes. This is the one sector I wish I owned less of today. Looks much worse for tomorrow. Sell, lighten up, hold through it?
I am glad that Iran, Russia and Venezuela are unhappy. But I wonder if the energy jobs which have been so wonderful in places like North Dakota will go away and our economy will suffer, too!?

Thanks, RS, for writing this just when I was considering a recommendation of MAT by Richard Band. You have articulated why MAT doesn't belong in a buy and hold portfolio.

Rereading this article, Bret, because it seems to be happening again today (IRT issuing shares, stock price drops after hours).

  • Shale Oil Production Offers Positive Talking Point For Chevron [View article]
Thank you for this article, Ms. Warren. I am overweight energy and thus the past few weeks have been very disheartening. Re CVX's beginning to recover, I note that energy is up big across the board today. But why? And do you think we've seen the bottom? Nothing has changed that I know of vis a vis the Saudis; is it that the election results make it more likely that Keystone will be built ?
    Thanks,
    Judy
