I've been reading SA articles for quite some time, but decided to join after reading recent (August 2011) articles on dividend-growth investing. I'd never heard of it specifically as an investment strategy, and I must say, I'm intrigued to say the least. I can't get enough of the articles and discussions. I'd be interested in finding a book on the subject to help get me started. (I tend to do too much research before moving forward.) But whatever advice any of you have would be greatly appreciated. I'm quite impressed with the relative civility of the comments on this site.
I hope to retire sometime between 2027 (wishful thinking) and 2035. I think I've built a healthy nest egg of traditional and Roth IRAs, a ...More 401k and after-tax savings (which I use as an emergency fund and short term savings - ex. annual insurance costs, taxes, etc.)
In addition to the above, I have money in other accounts (529, ESA, etc.) saved for college for my four kids, the oldest of which is due to begin college in 2020, the youngest in 2026. Due to the limited time horizon of college (about 5 years before graduation and the cessation of bills per child), I'm not sure how well the DG strategy works for college savings. Any advice is welcome.
