  • Can The Stock Market Continue To Go Up When The Middle Class Is Suffering? [View article]
There is no shortage os jobs that need MIS, Finance, Business, Math or Engineering undergrads. Although basket weaving was fun; I knew it wouldn't really make me the big bucks, even in the 90's boom days.

Wow a bearish engulfing weekly candle which breaks below a 200 day moving average is bullish. This is truly enlightening.

Proof that TA is highly subject to lookback and confirmation bias when the fundamentals are traded upon.

  • China surpassed the U.S. as the largest trading nation in the world last year, with the total value of Chinese imports and exports hitting $3.87T while those of the U.S. reached $3.82T. Still, the latter's economy remains more than double the size of China's.

The Pentagon and think tanks have noted for yours we are moving into a less hegemonic world which will mean a basket of currencies. I wouldn't count on the Yuan being the defacto reserve currency just quite yet. Has anyone seen the amount of state control in their banks? It is the reverse of here where the banks control the state. As much as dark pool finance structures do exist, it is still more transparent than CN.

Right, because your post that you made on your computer on your browser isn't an actual thing, it was all imagined. If something isn't tangible it therefore does not exist....curious logic.

We already give tax benefits to companies that manufacture here: look at the agricultural sector, finance and housing. Tariffs, subsidies and protectionism have failed in the past. They serve to pervert natural market pricing dynamics. What is the reason they start working now except for a discontent with globalization? The disappearance of our middle class has coincided with a global wage arbitrage; which as much as you hate it, has created wealth in other countries.

  • Dividend Growth - The Stock Selection [View instapost]
It can't take much to satisfy them, Chowder's blog is way more credible than some others I've read.

One guy threw up a trend line on a single chart and that was all the evidence that a rally was over. I guess its a bit confounding as to what SA constitues quality journalism....My bet is the more traffic something gets (ad revenue) the higher chance it gets approved.

I agree that it has degenerated to a game of sorts, but when I get down to it there is only one mathmatical difference between a trader and investor (someone feel free to expand on the formula):

    T*(N) > I*(N)

Trader # positions = T, Investor # positions = I and N = the number of trades made per time period. If either the trader or Investor has a lack of disciple, strategy or favorable risk / money management then they will lose out to either a trader or investor who has more. the "most traders lose money" can be said of most crappy "investors" too, as they both share the same characteristics. Don't get me wrong, dividend investment and building a moat is part of my strategy, but a percentage of holdings are also devoted to equity trending indexes, and forex.

I would like to see a long term, say 20 year comparison of pure dividend plays vs. say, a strategy which encompassed dividends, trending and forex / commodities.

It still is kind of sad without skin in the game because inaction is still an action. People could have made nearly a thousand pips on a EURUSD today but instead somehow a perversion of buy and hold has taken grip on people, which I blame fear on. I'll personally just play the fear.

  • UnitedHealth And WellPoint Are Well-Positioned For Obamacare [View article]
As far as being innovative Alex, in case you didn't know, United ran ACO pilots before PPACA was enhrined into law. More to the point, these ACO pilots were on a volunteer incentive basis and providers gladly took part. The insurers are not the only one to see the writing on the wall. And for #4, there are initiatives in place to both increase the effectiveness of the "Home Health Model" where the primary care provider is the core of a patients health using a capitated risk model, and also there are safegaurds in place so that procedures must be approved before providers get paid (prior authorization).

Other posters bring good points about healthy people paying the penalty rather than getting care, then waiting to go to the ER. Lookup how much the cost is for end of life care in oncology or cardiology and then I'd like to know if you really think its still as much of a factor and why.

Yes, not quite sure what the poster is talking about, the PPACA clearly mandates MPLR / loss ratio to spend on 85% premiums. http://bit.ly/VLb7ee.

This is going to squeeze profits which is why companies which can offer ancillary services will thrive. This is why one of Uniteds largest revenue makers continues to be Optum. They'll have to look elsewhere to make money (Brazil).

If you wanted to short the USD, you would buy a currency pair where USD was the base and execute a sell order.
