  • As rumored earlier, Greek debt restructuring talks have collapsed, with private bondholders unwilling to accept the IMF's insistence of a greater than 50% haircut. "Under the circumstances, discussions with Greece and the official sector are paused for reflection on the benefits of a voluntary approach," says the IIF chief (negotiating on behalf of the bondholders).  [View news story]
    @ Dr Jan

If Greece has a free market, competitive environment, it won't be in this situation today.

Lack of natural resource doesn't serve as an excuse SanDiego, just look at Singapore. Greece people, whether government or citizen, just lack of the sense of survival.

It's simple to find out whether Greece is Socialism or not. Socialism encourage laziness. Capitalism force people to fight for their own survival.

So now, is the Greece people hardworking?

  • The parallels between events unfolding today and those which brought upon "The Long Depression" of 1873 are facinating, says MarketWatch contributor Matthew Lynn. Cheap money, banking de-regulation and an ill-fated attempt to merge European currencies in the late 19th century created a bubble that, when it burst, brought about an economic collapse that lasted an epic twenty-three years. Past as prelude, perhaps?  [View news story]
I care not whether things will last hundreds of years. I only know that 23 years is a lot of my lifetime.

  • What Will Pop The Gold Bubble - Update [View article]
    Buck08

Everything has bubble. Yes indeed, our economy is screw. But if gold price continue to sky rocket, eventually we could buy the whole world economy with a few piece of gold, which wouldn't happen.

So Gold may increase for some time. But there will be a bubble someday in the future.

  • Shocking! It turns out central banks (at least those in Europe) are really bad gold traders - having unloaded millions of ounces from 1998-2008 at an average price of $398/oz., and buying it back over the last 3 years at 3X that amount. In fact, central bank purchases may be more influential than ETFs in driving the current bull market.  [View news story]
All in the name of currency manipulation.

    Davewmart,

So, are you trying to say that serve those Germans right, for being stupid enough to lend money to Greece?

I politely disagree with your statement.

I would like to see if you could allow someone to borrow your money without repaying just because you are richer.

Why not blame the Greeks instead? They spend like-there-is-no-tomorrow for years.

    And now, they deserve it.

Though I only agree with part of your argument, I appreciate your ability to make rational arguments as compare to people like Diane Lee. Nevertheless, only time will tell why we are now so screw up, and good luck in your life.
