  • AT&T Earnings Preview: Wireless Growth And Acquisition Plans In Focus [View article]
I believe AT&T would be better served by staying invested in the USA at this time as well. Too much comp here at home. Europe can always come later.

Me too. The company does a lot for the USA culture (positive) too. It's not ALL just about the money for me.

  • AT&T (T) accounted for 68% of U.S. iPhone 5 pre-orders from Sep. 14-16, estimates comScore. Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) is believed to account for 24%, and Sprint (S), whose stores are apparently selling out of iPhones, just 8%. AT&T benefits from having a much larger iPhone base, and comScore cautions Verizon grew its share of iPhone 4S orders over time. But the numbers are still encouraging for Ma Bell, given fears Verizon's superior LTE coverage would help it take share[View news story]
I support AT&T retail because of their social involvement in the community. They are helping encourage less high school drop-outs, they are trying to get texting off our roads, they are encouraging technology development (foundry etc) at all levels of education, the list goes on. It is more than about a phone... Just my opinion.

I appreciate AT&T because they are cracking down on texting and driving (which has turned out to be more of a problem than drunk driving). So, socially, they are on the ball.

  • Many think AT&T's (T) decision to limit the use of Apple's FaceTime app to shared data plans violates the FCC's net neutrality rules. Ma Bell defends itself by arguing FaceTime is still available to all customers over Wi-Fi. Any financial penalties levied by the FCC, should it take up the issue, will likely be small - the bigger problem is the potential for the controversy to produce another PR black eye for a carrier that has repeatedly landed at the bottom of Consumer Reports' customer satisfaction survey. [View news story]
AT&T is working diligently to stop texting while driving. I'll stay with them on that count alone.

  • A federal judge yesterday confirmed a preliminary injunction blocking the FDA from forcing tobacco companies to put gruesome health warnings on cigarette packaging, including a corpse and cancerous lungs. "These mandatory graphic images violate the First Amendment by unconstitutionally compelling speech," the judge explained.  [View news story]
I agree. I quit smoking on my own. Those pictures wouldn't have done it for me.

  • Veirzon Wireless (VZ, VOD) claims that following the rollout of 4G LTE services in 11 markets tomorrow, the carrier's U.S. LTE network will cover more than 200M people, putting it ahead of a prior, year-end goal of 185M people. AT&T (T), by contrast only expects to cover 70M people with its LTE network by year's end.  [View news story]
What are you doing for the community-at-large, Verizon?

  • Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) has a big lead on AT&T (T) when it comes to 4G LTE coverage, and it looks like it  won't be going away anytime soon. Verizon says its LTE coverage will soon reach 179 markets. By contrast, AT&T's LTE coverage will only reach 15 markets by the end of the month. In addition, Verizon will be able to offer the LTE-enabled Galaxy Nexus and Droid Razr to customers.  [View news story]

I support AT&T. If you go to their website, you can read about ALL THE SOCIAL PROJECTS they either initiate, collaborate with, financially and physically support, the list goes on - to make our country a better place to live. Sorry this message deviates from the financial/technical aspect, but I believe AT&T's mission needs to be put out for all to see. I truly wish more companies would operate like AT&T.

  • AT&T (T) has provided "almost nothing" to support its claim that its proposed $39B merger with T-Mobile USA (DTEGY.PK) would create between 55,000 and 96,000 jobs, the FCC says in a letter. The agency has to clear the deal for it to go through. The Justice Department separately has sued to block the merger on competition grounds.  [View news story]
AT&T is an excellent company, ethically, technologically, morally on and on... They have positively addressed many of our societal needs. They pay a solid dividend to their shareowners. Thank goodness for such companies as AT&T. I continue to stand behind them as they pursue the merger with T-Mobile.
