  • Avoid Exxon Mobil If You Want To Profit From An Oil Price Recovery  [View article]
There are billions of oil assets that will come for sale during this downturn. These hydrocarbons will be priced well below XOM's replacement discovery price even if not today being particularly cash flow positive.
I like this purchase model and it should (and has) tweak(ed) XOM's present share price.
As 45 Cal says, think long term.

  • ModernGraham Quarterly Valuation Of Halliburton Company  [View article]
I am sincerely confused. Of what possible accuracy is a formula for HAL (or BHI) if its near term revenue fate is potentially mega disparate or volatile based on oil prices. What's the company's growth rate at $30 oil, $100 oil? (I'm short BHI puts, in my small gaming gambit. Will likely sell more at $59 if touched.)

  • ModernGraham Quarterly Valuation Of JPMorgan Chase  [View article]
Given the stupidity of money center banks and their CEOs as they blow out their equity every seven years or so,. (Think "Tulip Mania"), I must hold my nose to own one. But I'm quite long JPM. Quite long BMO also as it appears to be a safe-ish price proxy for oil prices. I use the Camu/Satre ship's toilet NyQuil investment model.

  • National Retail Properties: A 4% Mid-Yield Alternative To Realty Income  [View article]
The specter of higher interest rates has been a boon for NNN's share price as swirling capital seeks other well yielding assets besides AT&T and Vz, etc. My gut tells me that except for the impetus from higher-rate-fear NNN would be 10 to 15% lower. I'm long in two accounts and have sold some covering calls. My Mother had some NNN from the 90's and I use it half as a stock/bond and half as a trading implement. It was one of my best performers last year. I last re-entered NNN at $36.90 and am bemused by its sticky ascendancy to the mid $40's. (ex div coming)

  • AT&T: A Conservative Strategy Could Earn 20.9%  [View article]
All your basic stuff is excellent. Thanks. But you do swing your bat a little loosely. If I write a put on a $3.00 stock my downside is obvious, a sold call theoretically faces infinite(ish) risk. A naked sold put or call on NetFlix, Tesla, GoPro, Green Mtn. etc ain't the same thing as a similar transaction with T, Vz, XOM etc.
I know that you know this but you didn't restrict your article to Blue Chips which then makes some of your comments, ahem, debateable.

RE: Veritas1010. I'm 71, also relying on my Grandmother's/then Mother's XOM for much of my core, "sleep well in all kinds of weather" stocks. T also. Turned in the physical paper shares in '08. That was quaint.

For me sell a Jan 16 90 putt +/- $7.00 while the vix is frothy. ( I own the stock and am short both puts and calls.) Collect 2 years plus dividends with a, non-risk to me, of being exercised to own the underlying stock at $83.00. With some luck in oil prices, and a large decline in vix it would be easily imaginable to close out this position for a $1.50 or $2.00 ($150, $200) gain in 90 days, a nice improvement over just the 3% per annum dividend.

  • Halliburton Analysts Must Be Crazy: Accumulate  [View article]
I was once a bank officer with 2 billion in credit outstandings when oil crashed to $26.oo a barrel. Houston banks tanked immediately, Dallas banks said they were not overly leveraged oil. Then there was this ominous noise as the equity in the Dallas banks whooshed out.
Commodities aka etc behave like commodities which is fraught with vol. There's probably an 18% chance oil will trade down to $30's. Commodity, ahem, commodity.
Good news is that the U.S. no longer hemorrhages on $$ oil importation. Good news is that renewables are actually having an (albeit small (effect).

short BHI 60 J16 puts at 7.50 ish.
    short XOM 90 J16puts 12 ish

  • Vodafone Group Turns It Around  [View article]
    Mssr: Sartre

    Tracing Vod's dividends takes paaaaatience.
According to their web site Vodafone dot com//..investors//..ADR holders//..Dividends, their last four years payout has been (in $, net of small fee):

    Year Interim Final Total
    2014 .5704 1.2530 1.8235 ($1.82/$35.00 = 5.2%)
    2013 .5080 1.0426 1.5506
    2012 .4636 99.08 1.4544* (* Plus $.62 special 2012 div due to
    2011 .4457 .9669 1.4426 Verizon Wireless payment)

The interim goes ex-div November and is paid in February, making it a following year dividend re: Vodafone. Such as, (I think/don't warranty), VOD will go exdividend for its 2015 Interim Nov 20 for =/- $ .54, payable February 4.
Final dividends go ex-div early June payable August.
