  • Understanding Tesla's Giga-Scale Battery Challenges [View article]
If you read the article you would find the calculation for the battery at $20,250, or less, based on Straubel statement that the battery is less than $25,000 in most cars. In fact, for the smaller version coming out in 2018 the battery cost is $11,900. On Oct. 11, 2011, Panasonic entered into an Agreement with Tesla to give Tesla $30 Million toward it's built out for the sourcing of the batteries for four years 80,000 vehicles with Panasonic. Tesla builds battery and power train systems for Toyota and Daimler, which would go towards the 80,000 number. The Lux Research report is a series of guesses. "About 40 million in profits....", "About 16,000 Model S units....", and "...accounting for more than $400 million in revenues...." The number of Model S units does not account for the Toyota and Daimler power train and battery systems sold, but the vague "...more than $400 million in revenues ...." does. Without accounting for the sales of the other power train systems, which you have not done you cannot come up with a price for the battery system. And, if you did, you would have to account for the impact of the $30 million interest by Panasonic.

  • The Madness Of Netflix Investors [View article]
NETFLIX is evaluated based upon subscribers & content deals. The stock has moved up this year in response to both positives. AMAZON losses money, yet the stock goes up based on the company's growth. As long as it grows the stock has gone up. Both my wife & son use NETFLIX to access different shows & movies. For the shows they are looking at the prior years to catch-up on the storyline. This is a service only available through NETFLIX.

  • If superhero tentpoles fail, red ink will flow [View news story]
Hero or Superhero franchises are built based upon the quality of the movies. Look at the first iteration of Batman movies versus the second. The first is considered a failure, while the second is celebrated for its characters, screenplay & director.
Studios can survive the impact of losses like Disney did with "John Carter", because it was being marketed across multiple revenue streams, plus "The Avengers" came out soon after making over $1 Billion.

  • Bucking much of the bullish commentary on the eve of Apple's (AAPL -0.7%) expected launch of an iPad 3, Global Equities thinks consumers won't line up for Apple’s new tablet if gas prices remain elevated. “Our observation is that iPad 3 will get a subdued reaction, until and unless gasoline prices fall by 25%,” Global Equities says.  [View news story]
Apple will try with the ipad3 to price it at the same price as the ipad2. They did this with the iphones. The sales of the new ipads have no correlation to the price of gasoline. I have sat in a number of conference rooms listening to people discuss their ownership and purchases of the upcoming ipad. Many of them are business owners. They will order and have the product shipped. The Apple name and applications with its recent purchase of Chomp adds to applications exposure. In some instances people have ipad1, or ipad2s, and all are looking for the new ipad to replace and update what they are using.
