  • Surface RT (MSFT) sales "have slowed considerably in the last month from an already anemic pace" and could be below 50K/month, according to Detwiler Fenton's checks. Surface Pro sales are a little better - Detwiler estimates a Q1 tally of 300K-500K - in part due to limited competition from PC OEMs. The firm is counting on the launch of Windows Blue (expected to support 7" tablets) and Office's touch-friendly Gemini updates to give Windows 8 Pro tablet sales a lift. Windows is done! Chrome OS is the future. Microsoft has missed the boat so many times that I am baffled that there is still as much investor support as there is.

  • Favorable Risk/Reward In Undervalued Barclays [View article]
By all in, I don't at all mean that I am all in right now. I meant that that I will be over the next 6 months or so. I am currently about 40% "all in" with more ammo as things improve / get worse.

Great article. I'm with you on this strategy. I have been going all in since US downgrade with leverage on euro financials/ base materials.

    MT, CRZBY, RBS, CS, ING

Also small position shorting gold (GLL)

What are your guy's thoughts on this. Thanks,

    Patrick

Gold.. I hate to burst the author's bubble (and many, many other's), but gold is obviously a bubble. It will be back to well below $1,000 within 24 months.

First off, a truly sound investment does not need to be backed by huge advertising budgets to gain attention. Berkshire Hathaway does not advertise on the side of this page telling you they are a good investment.

Second, gold has risen so sharply in recent years specifically because it has been marketed as a safe haven from volatility, market uncertainty, hyper inflation, etc. As gold has dropped close to 20% in just the last week, that theory has absolutely been debased.

Third, gold has no intrinsic earning power, so any investment in it is made purely on speculation of future price appreciation. This is the age old ingredient that fuels bubbles. Investing in gold now is similar to buying Pokemon cards or Beanie Babies when they were at their peak.

I initiated long positions in the stocks shown here the day after the US downgrade and have been building them ever since; GLL, CRZBY, CS, MT, RBS
