  • Quantifying Uncertainty In Yahoo [View article]
its an old story played out by someone who has no idea what to do except present options for every avialable outcome. let me offer you this the baba spinoff will go as constructed without any change to the tax rules. the yahoy shares will be judged under whatever new rules might be issued. the big mistake yhoo made was not including yahoy in the baba spin. i have said this over and over the only way yhoo gets valued anywhere near its true value is without the asian assets. yhoo management doesnt understand the situation at all or at least they didnt until some tax moron made a statement that turned every yhoo bear into a super bear and every fence sitter into a bear. if the investing public doesnt see the value there then i will just have to keep on buying more. give me my share of baba and my share of yahoy then throw in yhoo and the cash and i will be very happy

  • The Most Logical Way To Play Yahoo's Pullback [View article]
capital gains are taxed at a much lower rate. all the hoopla over the spinco taxes is just noise. it will go as constructed. buy yahoo!! the failure on yhoo's part was to not spin yahoy at the same time. the only way yhoo EVER gets valued correctly is for it to stand on its own. there are those that will argue both sides of that and its a reasonable argument both ways. yhoo is a short term trade based on sum of the parts. baba on the other hand is a long term play. i can't answer the cost basis answer for you.

why don't the children leave the room and let the adults talk. i'm sure there must be a forum for you to insult each other. baba is doing all the right things. those looking for instant gratification should find it in other ways. if you don't believe in the future of this company fine. just dont make me scroll past the insults to find something meaningful to read. SA if you can't keep the ignorance out of these discussions then you won't be around for long

alpine if you can honestly assess baba as stupid then you are relying on something other then fact to cloud your judgement. i put more credence in a global collapse of economic activity then baba failing. everybody has to pick their own crazy. i happen to put mine in baba.

  • Yahoo's Alibaba Failure [View article]
jack ma has concentrated on building a company for the future of china. he knows what his country will want in the way of services and he is positioning baba for that future. why mess with a small potato like yhoo especially when every large company in the world is coming to him to do business. he doesnt need yhoo's cloud business. after the baba shares are spun there is a large undervaluation of yhoo that needs to be reckoned with. the big mistakes as i have said before was not spinning yahoy with the baba shares. now that the tax situation has changed the tardiness of spinning baba and the failure to include yahoy is obvious. early in baba's ipo process it seemed that buying yhoo made sense but then we weren't privy to jack ma's goals. since then i have seen what i think his intentions are and i don't think buying yhoo is one of them. if you don't believe in the undervaluation of yhoo then sell your shares go find something else. the yhoo story is not over. it is tracking baba's share price movement as it should. until the core business is laid bare and has to stand on its own will the undervaluation story unfold. yhoo management needs to concentrate solely on reducing costs and growing revenue. the two things that every management team should always be concerned with

  • Patience Is The Key With Yahoo [View article]
At the current prices you should get in the vicinity of .468 shares of baba for every share of yhoo. with an untaxed yahoy plus cash and giving yhoo core a value of 3B the new yhoo will be worth $17.65 a share. I doubt very highly that baba will buy yhoo. I would love to be wrong. Will the street give yhoo full valuation after the spin off? It hasn't so far , so I doubt it will then. Does the core get a greater value then 3B. I dont't know. Will yahoy be spun tax free. That's up in the air now. There are a lot of variables but yhoo is in a worse case scenario still under valued. The baba spin will still be done tax free.

  • Why Alibaba Should Buy Yahoo, Right Now [View article]
    yhoo's baba shares 384.5m times fridays close $93.27 = 35.862B
    yahoy stake at 35% = 8.199B yhoo cash = 5.28B add them up = $49.341
divide that by yhoo shares outstanding (938.44m) $52.577 per yhoo share
Now you can tell me that the IRS is going to derail the spinco transactions tax free status and I will tell you it is going to happen as it was presented. The possibility that the yahoy stake may not get the same treatment is now a 50/50 call. I know the consensus call is for baba to buy yhoo but i dont see that happening. I would be more inclined to see someone doing an all stock transaction for yhoo. They would get the 5.28B in cash to retire any debt they might have or use it to do another acquisition. They could then sell the stakes in yahoy , baba and the core business and come out with a tremendous profit. If you see yhoo as a 3B$ company which isn't to big of a stretch and add that to the 49.341B you come up with 52.341B. Divide that by the shares outstanding and you get $55.774 per yhoo share. Of course any premium they would have to pay above yhoo's share price would lessen their profit. I am not optimistic that someone will buy yhoo but current shareholders are in for a windfall if they just wait. The baba stake no matter how you look at it is the key as it has always been. If someone sees that as an undervalued asset then a buyout becomes a greater possibility.
