  • Why Seagate Is A Buying Opportunity [View article]
This stock seems to be mixed bag with good PEG and forward P/E, but all the YoY metrics are down and the free cash flow is steadily declining. Price should be lower.

  • Take Profits In Apple And Don't Look Back [View article]
How will the dividend after split be determined? Current annual (3.29 x 4)/7? Would a split share priced at $80 have dividend yield of 2.35%?

  • PC shipments fall less than expected; IDC, Gartner differ on how much [View news story]
There are a lot of PCs that will need to be replaced in near future. Tablets are not replacing PCs, but are part of a bundle of devices (PC, tablet, smart phone) that people want. There will be an ebb and flow of sales for each type of device.

The Microsoft Surface lineup is approaching all 3 devices in 1, but the Amazon Kindle black & white book-like screen could be the 4th device as its CEO has suggested.

  • Surprise, Microsoft's RT Is Actually A Great Product [View article]
Microsoft needs to have a retail store in most of the MSAs in U.S. so we can see and feel a full range of products built by Microsoft and others using Microsoft systems. I love to go into the Apple Stores where there are roomy displays and helpful sales representatives.

Various outlets have limited selections, many of which are not working on given day, displayed on cramped shelves with sales reps more interested in TVs or other appliances

  • How Much Is Apple's Cash Really Worth? [View article]
No one seems to talk about how much cash Apple has in the U.S. ? If Apple deposits its U.S.-earned cash offshore, hasn't it already paid corporate income tax on the amount before it leaves U.S.? Does Apple have any cash in U.S.?

Would someone explain to me how Apple got the money offshore in the first place and how they can spend it?

  • What To Do With Microsoft's Stock In The Post-PC World [View article]
I'm not sure the price of Surface Pro is the problem. It may be the advertising, roll out, etc. The Surface Pro is a full fledged lap top PC that has touch screen/tablet capacity. If it does the job of a MacBook with added benefit of a tablet, it should be a go to product. The Apple MacBook starts around $1,200 and the iPad starts around $499. Surface has both in one.

  • Goldman Sachs cuts Microsoft (MSFT -3.4% to $29.25) to "sell" from "neutral" and says there is an 11% downside to the software giant's $27 12-month price target. Goldman cites falling PC sales and not enough traction in tablets and smartphones as a reason for the downgrade, which comes a day after IDC said that global PC sales slumped 13.9% in Q1. [View news story]
OK, so PC sales are down. What's new. We've been told for many months now that consumers are buying tablets and smart phones; but when their PCs get old they will go for the tablet/PC combos and MS is positioned to take advantage with Windows 8 and the Surface Pro.

  • The Diversity Of Microsoft Is Not Really Diversity [View article]
Every Sunday the newspaper has color ad inserts from national chains that sell computers and software. Computers with Microsoft Windows 8 dominate the selections, and touch screens/tablets with Windows 8 are beginning to increase as a choice and the Microsoft Surface Pro is being displayed in a favorable manner.

Bing needs to be marketed more or renamed to "Microsoft Search". It is a good search engine and can be improved to take market share away from Google, thus giving Microsoft a platform for pushing it hardware and software.

  • Apple (AAPL) is indeed thinking of selling an iWatch, both the NYT and WSJ report. Sources claim Apple is experimenting with iOS-based watches made of curved glass, and has discussed the matter with Foxconn. If an iWatch ever arrives, there's a good chance it will use Corning's (GLW) Willow Glass, which was created with bendable displays in mind. Former Apple UI designer Bruce Tognazzini recently predicted an iWatch will arrive, while providing a long list of apps/services it might support. [View news story]
I'll be waiting for the iRing (secret decoder of course).

  • Microsoft (MSFT) will charge a hefty $899 for the 64GB version of Surface Pro, and $999 for the 128GB version. Touch/type covers are sold separately. There's a good chance Surface Pro will be seen as just one name in a sea of Windows 8 Pro tablets and convertibles, especially since its use of an Intel (INTC) Core i5 CPU has made it a little thicker/heavier than models running on Intel's Clover Trail. Meanwhile, Digitimes is reporting Microsoft has cut its Q4 Surface RT orders in half to 2M  - that's a negative for NVDA. (NPD data[View news story]
If Surface Pro has the power of laptop, then it will be a great device with touch/type functionality and portability. I own an iPad and it doesn't have the power to replace laptop and the key board is separate unless you like the digital key board built into iPad. Surface is all in one device with key board acting as a cover that is an add-on to iPad.
