  • Japan October core CPI -0.1% M/M (in line) vs. +0.2% in September. It's the first fall in four months and confirms that Japan is still grappling with deflation, which will probably ensure the BOJ will maintain its ultra-easy monetary policy for a while to come. (PR)  [View news story]
i think deflation is bad because it hinders growth. banks charge higher intrest rates for borrowers and savers. a little inflation is ok because it keeps up with gdp. im no expert ive only and one class on economics.

  • The U.S. middle class, which did not cause the financial crisis, will wind up paying for it through higher taxes and cuts in government service, Simon Johnson writes. Though it's natural to point a finger at the institutions that mismanaged the risks that brought on the disaster, "the unfortunate truth is that those 'responsible' for the crisis never have enough money to make the rest of us whole."  [View news story]
    what middle class?

  • The Occupy Wall Street movement is showing signs of fraying at the edges. Headlines of late depict violent clashes, not just with police, but amongst themselves. Zuccotti Park, the movements main base, has seen numerous fights, several sexual assaults, and deteriorating health conditions that may put public safety at risk. Last week, ironically, meal distribution was halted for two days because protestors felt that too many homeless New Yorkers were "freeloading."  [View news story]
