  • Prime Minister Abe Keeps His Promise  [View article]
Ralph, do you think the EUR/JPY is poised for faster acceleration than USD/JPY given the continued promise by MOF to buy ESM bonds? or is the EUR/JPY more susceptible to a reverse once the Euro sovereign risks re-emerge?

  • Draghi Does Not Hint At Change In ECB Policy  [View article]
Marc even with this posturing by the ECB i am finding it difficult to get my head around why the CAD is weakening against the EUR, given the potential for rate hike in future by BOC and strong job numbers, I would have thought a material strengthening of the CAD against EUR was in order. Your thoughts?

  • The Problem With Coal  [View article]
It is dangerous forecasting forward based on current imports for China, as they buy for inventory as a way of managing their reserves. So it is possible as construction slows, they disappear from the markets and rely on just drawing down inventory....having said that with the impending leadership change, who knows what policy China uses to fend off civil unrest...more stimulus???.

  • Mexico Getting Set To Impose High Tariffs On U.S. Chicken Legs  [View article]
"unless they include balanced trade clauses" , would this work for all trade imbalances, because those resulting from poor productivity and not manipulation may further exacerbate their problem by imposing tariffs that allows them to perpetuate their internal over valuation?

  • 1 Big Reason The USD/JPY And FXY Aren't 10% Weaker  [View article]
Based on that does this bode well for Japanese and US government debt i.e. prices move higher? Resulting from the need by China to manage its USD and JPY denominated reserves.

  • Why The Sell-Off Of The Australian Dollar May Continue  [View article]
I am betting on parity in the coming months, but I expect to see some short term volatility due to the RBA and Chinese potential RRR cut, but fundamentally the story has changed for the AUD i fear....

  • Frustrating Friday As Euro, Sterling Bounce Back  [View article]
Marc, with the BOJ rhetoric on inflation targeting, do you think the appreciation in the Yen last week was purely exporters selling? or a more meaningful trend?

With the AUD, I think a cut by the RBA in the coming months, should bring this back into the 1.02 or lower

  • Australian Economy Watch: Latest Data  [View article]
Nice article, the down trend in building approvals seems to have but a short term bid under house prices, which may further fuel the enthusiasm for housing invests adding to the bubble.

I am also short the AUD, but against the CAD, expecting a divergence in monetary policy.

However, I am thinking of entering a long position in AUD against the GBP after a reasonable AUD downward move, purely in anticipation of reinsurance payments resulting from the floods.

  • Dollar Finishing Week With Bid Tone  [View article]
Do you think that once the European banks have swapped enough bad sovereign debts for LTRO funding and are happy with their balance sheet, they are likely to restock on assets but in the form of gilts and German equities using the LTRO money? thereby placing a bid under GBP and German equities?

  • Why The Yen Is Going Down From Here  [View article]
First off I am short the YEN, but my concerns are the extent of the intervention may not be substantial because of the strong YEN support for import requirements of energy given the nuclear plant shuts. The government has also pitched policy to exploit YEN benefits through other non-interventionary support for corporates. So although I am short, i am not sure if the intervention will provide enough of an upside kicker to make this a 'profitable' trade, maybe marginally?!
