the iPhone isn't perfect the perfect hardware device nor is it the perfect software device but unfortunately, Motorola even with Android, Samsung, Nokia etal can't seem to figure out how to make a better device.
Samsung makes fantastic hardware, but they need to couple it with better software. they also need to move to a standard USB charger.
Nokia just can't seem to figure out how to make a better Blackberry or iPhone.
Blackberry needs to figure out how to make browsing more relevant on their phone.
iPhone needs to make reading and responding to email more like a Blackberry.
Palm needs to produce a larger device, that's more user friendly for the older generation that wants mail, some games, stock look-up, weather, maps.

the data seems less than reliable. I find it hard to believe Android users' traffic requests, out number Blackberry users' traffic request, when Blackberry users installed base is probably 30x greater than the Android installed base.
Even though I don't think it'll be used much, after I by it, I'm intrigued by the Kindle and I'm hoping they'll drop the price under $200 this Christmas.

Nice dreaming, this is not in the realm of possibilities. Apple's next move will be in automotive user interface. As Microsoft has partnered with Ford, Apple needs to partner with Toyota to develop a superior experience for the driver.
Remember Apple has a ton of ipoders to conver to iPhones. Any new competing device (aka Palm Pre) can't give assurance that they'll be able to access their music. Fortunately for Blackberry and others iTunes compatibility isn't a must for everyone for now.

Having a standard screen size and UI, makes it easier to develop a great looking app. Don't expect any variation there from Apple. If you research ATT stores you'll discover sale of iPhone is increasing, not decelerating. So expect Apple to have a blow-out next quarter.
Also I'm expecting Apple to collaborate with one of the car makers to create a UI experience to access GPS, music, climate controls, internet in the car and all the new safety technology being incorporated into cars. Who better to come up with the UI to unify it all.
Having said that I don't own any Apple and at this price am not interested in buying. Too much of their current success is riding on the iPhone, and if something negative happens (like phones catching on fire), kaboom goes your investment.
I don't own any Apple Shares and I bought a iPhone 3GS and returned it after 20 days, because I liked my Blackberry better for mail and phone. However most people are buying the iPhone. When I spoke to the rep at the ATT store on Monday, he said most people were buying iPhones and Blackberry sales were down.
Blackberry needs to step up its browser and app game, to increase its appeal. The new Blackberry Bold 9700 is won't be enough, it's too incremental, and will only appeal to the corporate crowd.
It's all about the apps. Any phone can place a call, handle blue tooth and access voicemail, but what are the killer apps to create the demand. Hardware alone won't do it.
I was looking forward to this phone, becuase I wanted better browsing than the blackberry offers and a physical keyboard, but this phone disappointed me.
The display should have been bigger and the banana curve pop-keyboard is a non-functional design. The designeers compromised newness for practicality.
Guys, bring out version two with a bigger display and simple slide out keyboard, as wide as on the Blackberry Curve, with a display as big as the iPhone. You'll sell a ton of them to power users, who want to be able to quickly respond to messages and also be able to read pdfs and browse pages.

I'm unhappy wiht the browsing capabilities of my Blackberry Curve and have put off getting an iPhone for lack of a tactile keyboard, however the new Pre looks like the perfect solution. I hope it's fast, not buggy, quality build, and easy to sync with outlook.
