The Problem with iPhone Killers

Remember Apple has a ton of ipoders to conver to iPhones. Any new competing device (aka Palm Pre) can't give assurance that they'll be able to access their music. Fortunately for Blackberry and others iTunes compatibility isn't a must for everyone for now.

Motorola Droid: A Promising iPhone Challenger

Having a standard screen size and UI, makes it easier to develop a great looking app. Don't expect any variation there from Apple. If you research ATT stores you'll discover sale of iPhone is increasing, not decelerating. So expect Apple to have a blow-out next quarter.

Also I'm expecting Apple to collaborate with one of the car makers to create a UI experience to access GPS, music, climate controls, internet in the car and all the new safety technology being incorporated into cars. Who better to come up with the UI to unify it all.

Having said that I don't own any Apple and at this price am not interested in buying. Too much of their current success is riding on the iPhone, and if something negative happens (like phones catching on fire), kaboom goes your investment.

Verizon's Droid Is the Real Deal

It's all about the apps. Any phone can place a call, handle blue tooth and access voicemail, but what are the killer apps to create the demand. Hardware alone won't do it.

I'm hoping the 3rd generation improves keyboard input. I can see it gaining greater adoption with the business community if it does.

I wish the Blackberry Bold, had a bigger screen and it offered touch a UI in addition to the keyboard.
