  • Apple Releases A New iPad: What's Next? [View article]
Your guess is as good as mine. But to releive your anxiety and pressure - here's my guess at "what's next":

    1) Positive earnings in April driven by China and the iPad. This will include a blow out iPad number assuming Apple was able to produce enough.

    2) New product in June: Pure speculation but that's what I'd do to smooth out earnings and keep my competition guessing.

    3) New iPhone in Sep/Oct

    4) Christmas surprise in Nov - more a dream .... a Christmas iPad.

In the meantime may I suggest we see how the new iPad plays out and stop stressing about things we are in no position to control :).

First time buyers will find the wifi version a good starting point. Anecdotally most second time buyers I know are going with the 4G option to give themselves the flexibility. Especially when traveling where data rates are orders less expensive than North America, having a sim card option is as good as gold.

  • Winners, Losers In Apple's iPad Announcement [View article]
There is a connector kit for SD cards but unfortunately you have to pay extra for it - look it up on Apple.

The sharing problem is one I haven't figured out how to solve. However it's good to share as it gives each person a break from electronic overload. I do think we are getting to a point of clinical addiction with this stuff :).

As for using the iPad as a camera, I saw it a couple of times in my travels and it was rather sad. I could see using it in meetings to snap pictures of notes or whiteboards or for magging around at home.

  • Apple: Is There Still Scope To Innovate? [View article]
Interesting read. I sense that Apple has a lot up it's sleeve but is holding back for a number of reasons:

    1) Competitors are not ready: It appears that Apple releases just enough functionality to keep competitors busy trying to figure out how to emulate. Siri, new iPad resolution, faster chip, 9hrs on 4G - all innovations which will send competitors back to the lab. The sad news for them is that Apple probably did not reveal all their cards.

    2) Customers are not ready: Judging what features customers can absorb and what will "delight" them is a unique talent. The companies who put useability above specs and bells/whistles get this. There should be a roadmap to introducing people to new functions or those functions will fail to catch on. Apple does it through simple messaging in its ads. Siri ads are especially good at communicating how the technology can be used.

    3) Industry is not ready: 4G and NFC payments are two examples of areas where Apple held back in releasing functionality because the industry was not ready. It was a risky move. However it worked with the 4s because the integration of hardware and software allowed industry leading speeds even over 3G. Payments are likely going to take off this year and some new Apple patents imply that they have "cracked" that area too.

    4) Apple is not ready: perhaps the most important is the discipline to not release half baked products. Hopefully Apple will retain Jobs perfectionist tendencies and keep the quality high,

Mine's more of a midrange DSLR but still 21MP - so no we will not be shooting with the iPad.

  • Apple's Clash: Rising Stock Price Vs. Declining Company Superiority [View article]
How do you define " declining superiority"? I agree no one can stay top dog for long but why do you feel Apple is in decline right now?

    Thank you.

Not sure if you have an iPhone 4/4s but once you experience retina display, it's difficult to go back. For reading and note taking this change is huge. That said, it's fiscally the right thing to do to skip a generation especially for casual users.

A photographers dream indeed. Screen resolution alone makes it worth buying.

However you may not have solved the family sharing thing as most will gravitate towards the faster and shinier.

Dana in my view tablets are set for an explosive year. I agree that PCs are in trouble. I am not at all bullish about Amazon as I think they are hiding some skeletons in their closet about the quality of the Fire.

I think Samsung will do just fine in its own but will likely lose more of Apple's business.

The biggest winner is the consumer. Amazing resolution, 4times the speed and 9hrs on 4G.

  • Apple's Glut Of Hedge Fund Trading Action [View article]
The standard MO for Apple has always been to pullback prior to major events. So what changed this time? Its difficult to tell. However last weeks WSJ featured a headline that 120 people were being proded by the FBI for insider trading. Maybe hedgies and others are figuring it may be a good time to lay low?

  • Apple: Too Far Too Fast? [View article]
I know there is a fine line between gambling and trading but this does not mean every risky trade needs to be shared on an investment site. Even more having so many LOLs scattered around gives the impression that this is a "just for the fun of it" trade for the author.

I agree with Kim that some sort of collar or strangle would make more sense.

Thanks for the article Jason. I uphold that Apple is one of the most manipulated stocks out there. If its price held up its probably because most hedge funds had positioned themselves on the long side in anticipation of the meeting ( or they know something we regular investors do not).

I am waiting to see how the stock fares next week as I would expect some negative rumors to allow funds to buy in prior to iPad3.

Maybe it's time for an official investigation into the trading around this stock.
