  • Silicom: Upcoming Earnings And Strong Growth Prospects Signal Potential Upside [View article]
Like others, I was an owner in the $35/40 range and sold in the $60 range. I am now long again.

I find it puzzling that a company could post its second best quarterly results EVER and get punished so much. The moral of the story seems to be "don't post your even better results the quarter before!".

but yes, I put the company on a 'back of the envelope' P/E of mid-teens which seems absurd for a company growing revenue at 30-40% per annum, and with definitive growth catalysts for the foreseeable future.

I like the chart regarding bandwith above. That's entirely what SILC is here to, excuse the pun, "serve".

Thanks for article and good luck to all those buying here.

  • SanDisk Will Shoot The Lights Out Today [View article]
What a waste of time article from Wedbush! We have a price target of $105 but we wouldn't fault longs for taking profits' at $93 - after the stock has slumped post-earnings, and after it had previously reached our target.

How about keeping it simple? We have a price target of $105, so when the stock reached $105- $107 a week or two back we should have been HEAVILY telling you to get out THEN, not NOW!

After the horse has bolted. Yes, Wall Streets normal, no added value, modus operandi.

Sorry PV, but I big to differ.

earnings per share is, well, "per share". You don't need to multiply anything.

If future EPS estimates were being adjusted, then i DO agree, you can't just over simplify it and say a 0.05 revision to the current year = 0.05 off the share price.

But as I say before, they did NOT amend future estimates.

Therefore I believe that suggesting that 'all' that should have happened (purely based on UBS report) is that the share price should have fallen 0.05.

And of course, I agree wholeheartedly its not the only factor in play - but I guess what I am saying, is that the 'earnings downgrade' factor was basically no factor at all!

It equated, as I say, to nothing more than a 0.05 revision to the stock price.

I now hear that UBS retained its 2015 and 2016 EPS estimates.

So as I say, if 'all' they did was trim 0.05 off their 2014 estimate, then 'all' that should have happened is that the stock price should have fallen by 0.05.

So, in essence, all UBS are saying is that 2014 may be smidgen worse than anticipated.

What they are NOT saying (otherwise they would be heavily amending 2015 and 2016 estimates) is that there are fundamental problems with sapphire production such as either not making enough, or making enough but being insufficient standard for Apple to use.

And with that in mind, that doesn't add up to a 15% sell-off.

Except if, hand on heart, the stock was getting a bit ahead of itself, which it probably was.

It has certainly taken it from 'fair-to-slightly expensive' to 'on the cheap side'. Good entry point....

Did UBS actually downgrade 2015 EPS estimate?

If it was only 0.05 off the 2014 estimate then the stock price should logically have fallen by ....

    ... 0.05.

In fact, Chambers reckons it would be a "$19 trillion profit" market!

If it is a $19 trillion profit market, what size is it in terms of turnover then? $50-70 trillion?

As bullish as I am on companies genuinely well positioned for IoT growth, I can't help but smell some hyperbole here.

If they only use sapphire for a watch, what will they be using all the other sapphire they have (already) been producing for?

  • Pump The Brakes: Micron Is Worth $18 - $22 Per Share [View article]
I disagree with the article - I think Micron would be fairly valued on a P/E multiple of 6-7x and so I think it is even more of a sell. Fair value $15-16.

Actually scratch that I'll arbitrarily change it to a P/E of 4-5x.... and, yep at $32 the stock now looks even more expensive!

Amazing what you can 'do' with a stock's apparent valuation when you start throwing round P/E multiples under the market average by a HUGE margin!

  • 3 Reasons Why Micron Fell In After-Hours Trading [View article]
I am hoping the 'last word' will be the promised valuation of Micron.

I won't be tempted to delve into too many of the underlying assumptions if there are any), but just seeing the quantum which is pulled out of a hat will be interesting its own right.

I am not sure when I see a stock up over 3% for the day I am able to translate that into terms of what's "weighing" on the stock?

    Keep on weighing I say!

    And make the 'weights' heavier!

Incidentally - in response to a post of yours above saying you "would like to see two more quarters to get a trend on the company's earnings" ... it seems to me like you think there are FAR more moving parts than there really are.

While we clearly can't model the next couple of quarters results with a degree of accuracy which would enable us to predict specific EPS, I think we definitely have enough information to assess whether what we have seen in the last couple of quarters is a 'new trend' or a 'new run-rate'.

So, you most certainly didn't hear it from me first (you heard it from myriad other contributors over recent months), but I'll go totally, wildly, madly, almost dangerously and recklessly out on a limb and say...

    "it's a new run-rate".
