  • Apple: Why More Buybacks Makes Sense [View article]
I think in order to make any sort of meaningful comment about the Apple buybacks you need to organise a "nice dinner with Tim".

And as far as I am aware, Tim is offering this to only one 'investor' at the moment....

...and not threatening to compromise himself one iota in the process....

  • Apple: 7 Reasons Shorts Can't Sleep At Night [View article]
I haven't read the article, nor any of the comments, nor do I have a position in AAPL, nor have I ever had one.....

.... but I really needed to post that the headline is surely one of the most ridiculous I have ever read on SA (and that takes some doing!).

  • Why Apple's Valuation On An Ex-Cash Basis Is A Bit Misleading For Potential Investors [View article]
"So Apple is extremely profitable, has tremendous cash flow and the balance sheet continues to get better. And this is not positive for shareholders?"

But surely the price level of AAPL's stock is relevant? Would you still post the same reply if the stock was at $2,000?

I am not saying that AAPL is overpriced (I suspect it is 'about right' and as such I have no position in it), but being extremely profitable and having tremendous cashflow is not, in itself, any sort of guide as to what nominal level the stock should be trading at.

Interesting article, BTW, - thanks Amit. Not sure I'd want to use it as a central reason for a short-position ( by your own numbers it only marginally changes the P/E) - but like you I do think far too many companies keep their hands on far too much cash.

Keeping some for a rainy day is one thing, but 'keeping it in the bank on behalf of your shareholders' is quite another.
