  • Energy XXI offers investment case at EnerCom oil and gas conference [View news story]
I lost on some sept calls. But I'm not really annoyed because I'm digging it much more at this level. It really does call for quite a lot of trust in the management executing it just right. It's a bet on management as much as it is on the assets.

  • IPO Preview: How Individual Investors Can Profit From Alibaba's Large Public Offering [View article]
Looking at the August options expiring this Friday, either this stock is going to explode just about now OR once these Aug options are done with. The takeaway is that the stock is going up no matter how you look at it.

A lot of companies have managed to turn good fortunes into disasters but somethings are just too good and nothing that management or outsiders can do, can screw it up. No matter what your objection is to Yahoo, the answer is simply that they own 22.5% of Alibaba. One balm for all ailments.

I read someone objecting to Yahoo considering keeping their stake in the company for longer than expected. The problem appeared to be that YHOO sucks so bad itself that they really need to tag onto BABA. Are you kidding? I wish they tag on to baba for as long as they can. That company is growing, maybe slower now than before, but it is going to be bigger still.

YHOO will close out this year over $50.

  • Cabot Oil drifts lower despite strong Q2, analysts cite wide price differentials [View news story]
All of that is priced in already. Reacting to news always puts you behind the curve. Now is the time to buy. 2015 will bring about great things for Cabot.

Between COG, PDCE and GPOR you can't go wrong. All 3 offer amazing entry points at today's price for new and old investors.

  • WSJ: Elliott Management pushes EMC to spin off VMware unit [View news story]
If I remember right, VMW is where the growth is at but EMC by itself is quite a FCF machine.

The problem is that the whole of EMC is structured in an odd, ineffective way. If they were to spin of some assets and restructure debt, they could really improve their margins. There are quite a few articles on SA discussing this. I'm not very well informed but if you read them you will understand that this makes sense.

  • Getting From BooHoo! Back To Yahoo Again May Not Be That Far Off [View article]
Yahoo is going to get whacked for the next few weeks as it is another great point for big shareholders to pick up more. Through options they are able to manipulate stock movements. If anyone is using options to play this go with OCT or beyond calls as the best bet.

  • NYT: Alibaba planning September IPO [View news story]
I'm not contesting their claim at all. I agree with everyone that BABA will be huge but there is this senseless pump going on everywhere and for someone to say they were all in for a stock that's not even trading, doesn't have a price, date or any other detail at all is just laughable.

I'm buying yahoo because that's what makes most sense. I feel everyone else will do the same. BABA IPO will happen when it happens.

What's with all these new accounts pumping BABA? The pump in on without any shares being traded ever. We don't even know the price of IPO and these guys are all in. LOL

  • Upcoming earnings not likely to provide boost for refiners, Barclays says [View news story]
All this extreme bullishness on refiners in all the comments gives me pause. It's never a good sign.

  • Upcoming earnings not likely to provide boost for refiners, Barclays says [View news story]
Someone can correct me on this but I think the issue was that ultra light crude oil doesn't have to be supplied through refiners. There are ways around it that let producers qualify some of the production as ultra light crude while keeping the refiners out of the loop.

  • GM to reveal compensation plan; recalls continue [View news story]
Not sure, but Toyota problems hadn't caused multiple deaths. The way it looks, GM had known of the problem and avoided doing anything about it. As great as it is to know that the new CEO is more responsible and seems determined to set the ship right, for now GM isn't worth investing. But, it does look like a great play from the short-side.

  • Avon cutting 600 jobs [View news story]
Never thought I'd say this but I think Avon is a great buy right now. Ignoring my pre-existing biases, what I see is that many insiders have been buying/increasing position over the last year. The stock just broke out over its 200 DMA. Someone bought 25,000 contracts in Aug 1st week $15 Call option. AVP has an estimated report date of last week of July.

Overall, I feel pretty comfortable taking a position in this as the downside seems limited to 13.50, the level at which many directors bought last month.

  • Passing next stress test is job #1 at Citi [View news story]
Only thing I can take away from this is that C is worth the risk and investment. It has underperformed the over-all financial sector and if a few things are done right it could start making massive gains. Those 2016 calls look pretty cheap.

  • Limited Upside Potential Key In Bearish Stance On FirstEnergy [View article]
But if you think about it, it is not exactly something particular about FE but rather the whole utilities sector being up. Regardless, anyone who bought into FE has been handsomely rewarded and that is all that we care about after all.

  • Some analysts say energy stocks are getting too hot [View news story]
I think offshore drillers will do well in an environment of high crude prices. It doesn't necessarily have to do with becoming a substitute. If there are supply constrictions then prices will go up and that is what will really light the fire under offshore drillers (and all drillers in general).
