  • Coach Is A Value Play, Target Price Is $71, Stock Report Included [View article]
I was in and out of COH during 2012 and 2013; it was very disappointing to me, indeed, shocking. COH seems to be one of those un-loved stocks. It's all the more difficult to accept given that the fundamentals appear to be rather good. A lot of previously un-loved stocks with less good financial performance than COH have doubled or tripled in the past 12 to 15 months. When will COH's turn come? I dunno. I have BAX too; another great company, but totally unloved by the market! Thanks for the article. Always interested to read about COH.

  • Shell shock: Despite warning of disastrous quarter, shares only -1.3% [View news story]
I bailed earlier based on a roller coaster with RDS in 2013 and moved into CVX which has drifted down! I'm a longer term investor too, but am wondering whether this sector generally has reached a plateau. I think earnings increases may be harder to generate than thought.

  • Undervalued Baxter Is A Great Opportunity For Long-Term Dividend Growth Investors [View article]
Agree with article. Although a great company, BAX was clearly unloved by the market in 2013. I've been waiting for ages for another significant rise and hope 2014 will produce it. Long BAX

  • Medallion Financial Trouble Brewing Quickly [View article]
Paulo: You write well, but as a dedicated investor in TAXI, I sure hope you are wrong on this one. An investment in TAXI is an investment in the fabric of NYC society and government. There may perhaps be a place for UBER to co-exist there on some basis, but I would be surprised to see medallions crash and take TAXI down in the process.

  • Telefonica Is Best Large-Cap Value In The Sector [View article]
On the surface, a good article: TEF appears quite tempting with some compelling metrics. I feel I should have already bought it, but something restrains me. TEF remains speculative although it might be a reasonable proxy for Spain, and I am mildly optimistic about Spain although a fuller economic restructuring will be a 5 to 10 year job. TEF has a lot more work to do to reduce its relatively high debt load, and restoring a significant dividend quickly and while in recovery is perplexing to me. Dividend policy is critical--steady, stable, justifiable, predictable, etc-- and should be hallowed; but certain large European enterprises have a rather different notion of dividend policy. I've been watching TEF for a long time, but am yet to be convinced about the fundamental business case for investing in it. (Now that I've written this, expect the price to rise to $20 in 2014, thence higher!)

  • Kimberly-Clark Offers Decent Upside Potential [View article]
The matter of a fair price is arguable in today's increasingly inflated market. I fear many are already losing sight of the fundamentals as we flirt around the lower bounds of a bubble. I would love to buy KMB, but not above 85.

  • Fifth Street Finance: Time To Buy Or To Sell? Part 1 [View article]
You know your stuff ! I've been in FSC for 2 years now, originally at average of $9.70, but after reading your analyses in recent weeks, I sold 20% of my holding. It had been my largest BDC, but your analysis was compelling--and I bought TICC earlier in the cycle, probably as an alternative to FSC and PSEC (which I also own), because you made me aware of it through your BDC analyses. I didn't want to sell more than 20% of FSC because I feel it remains a solid BDC. That said, I also understand how firms seeking yield may often elect to go down the credit quality spectrum, and it can take time before the rot becomes evident. I obviously hope this won't be the case with FSC. Thanks for your outstanding contributions!

  • Microsoft Should Seat Elop Before 2014 [View article]
I agree Agliata: Mullally is brilliant and if MSFT chose him, this would reflect well on the enterprise too. I can't believe Elop is a serious contender: under his stewardship, NOK fell to pieces. The fact that he is high in the running is emblematic of everything that is wrong in the corporate multinational world.

  • Aeropostale: After A 40% Discount It Might Be Time To Go Bargain Shopping [View article]
Could ARO be a candidate for going through the roof in the next run-up? I am amazed at the number of near- dead firms whose shares have gone to the moon over the past 10-12 months. I am now wondering whether ARO could be lifted significantly by a rising tide? I added to my ARO position recently.

  • Is Safeway About To Be Acquired? Recent Insider Sales Scream 'No!' [View article]
Good article and timely too. I agree with you. SWY is emblematic of a bubble among weaker companies that have seen their stock pushed through the roof during 2013 in a market where the weight of money has created some serious distortions. The stock has had an incredible run since last Fall and insiders are lining their pockets before the gold fades. All that said, it is remarkable how far some canny financial engineering can go and SWY's run may not necessarily be over yet. But I believe its current price and trajectory are unjustified by the fundamentals.

  • Nestle A Long-Term Dividend Machine [View article]
Nestle is a great company and its stock has performed well over the years, but I bought Unilever ADR (UL) after careful comparison with NSRGY. There are no tax issues like with NSRGY.

  • Total S.A.: Is It Time To Cash In Some Profits? [View article]
After an 18 month run, I gave up on TOT in April, just before the big rise we've seen. I found it a very difficult stock to judge in every respect. The company has perplexed me for many years! I bought RDS.B as a replacement. Still, what do I know about stocks ?!

  • Is Baxter International Oversold? Should Dividend Investors Be Taking Notice? [View article]
Best time to buy is before analysts even notice a stock! Analysts often seem to be way behind reality and then put out BUY recommendations after a stock has already gone through the roof--and in some cases after they had previously recommended hold or sell !
