  • Which Is In Better Financial Shape? McDonald's Or Yum?  [View article]
It's nice to see someone focusing mostly on the balance sheet. This is a big part of the value investing approach. Very good article, keep it up!

  • Why Coach's Momentum May Continue To Slow  [View article]
Your idea of margin of safety may be a bit misleading. I associate margin of safety more with minimizing downside risk rather than maximizing potential gain. This is a great company at a good price, and I could see why that other guy would call it a strong buy.

  • A Complete Financial Analysis Of Apple  [View article]
Tough to say if there's over-pessimism. The market still seems to emphasize EPS trend, which is breaking down fast. A new product (iTV?) could continue the trend. Then Apple would be in another period of irrational exuberance. I doubt any development in smartphones this year would help Apple stop tanking. Since more people own smartphones and/or tablets, demand should decrease. But Apple seems to have always defied laws of economics. Their iPods sold big despite inferior sound quality to that of competition. Their iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, and iPad sold despite better competition. Hell, people still buy their cheap $20 earbuds when you can get one that has way better sound quality for cheaper.

  • Do Not Short Research In Motion  [View article]
BB10 could be big. Their brand still has much recognition and respect. Their concept of flow design seems the most efficient out of the other mobile OS & sets itself apart from the competition. Once the majority of consumers learn about this phone, it may even beat out Samsung's lineup. There are risks though. Possibly lower than expected adoption rate due to contracts and popularity of Android and iOS.

  • Apple Earnings: Expect The Unexpected  [View article]
I'm expecting Apple to beat estimates, but have a lower guidance for the year. Too much competition could make 2013 a much lower growth year, especially with the upcoming BB10.

Have you read Security Analysis? Ben Graham talks about this idea as one of the ways a mispricing occurs. Good strategy for defensive investors.

  • Apple Cannot Be Valued: Warren Buffett Knows This And You Should Too  [View article]
I was reading The Intelligent Investor today, the section on securities analysis. Your points definitely reflect what I've learned. My opinion is that Apple will continue expected growth in the next few years and maintain good revenue for this decade (I'm quite optimistic b/c Macrumors has so many dedicated Apple fans, and most people I know choose Apple products without research or testing. Think back to the iPod classic: inferior to competition, but still went huge). But I agree with your ideas. It's hard to value growth stocks. The more a valuation relies on future earnings estimates, the less margin of safety there is. I believe Warren Buffett doesn't understand how Apple's business can sustain growth and solid revenues in 10+ years, which is why he doesn't invest in it.

  • More on the iPad Mini: The cheapest model (16GB Wi-Fi) goes for $329. Amazon and Google, sellers of the $199 Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7, are probably breathing sighs of relief. As expected, there's no retina display inside the Mini, but there is an HD front camera and 5MP back camera, and 3G/4G models are offered (they start at $459). Like the iPad 2, the Mini is powered by an A5 processor. Apple (AAPL -2.2%) is selling off. (live blog).  [View news story]
mixed thoughts on Macrumors, which isn't good. some people say they'll get it for 4g LTE use.

Brilliant article. I've never considered investing in Sprint before, but it seems that they are improving and becoming much more competitive. I will add to my portfolio.

  • On day 1 of the Intel Developer Forum (INTC), the company: 1) Unveiled the Next Unit of Computing, a 4" x 4" motherboard featuring everything needed for a miniature PC. 2) Announced it will deliver ultrabooks in Q4 that sport Nuance's (NUAN) Dragon Assistant voice-recognition software. 3) Boasted its Haswell CPUs, due next year, will feature 1/20 the idle power draw of Sandy Bridge CPUs, as well as twice the graphics performance - the latter could be trouble for NVDA and AMD's graphics businesses.  [View news story]
Might not catch on with consumers for a couple of years, but I'm sure HTPC enthusiasts are excited about this.
