Clearwire (CLWR) says it board of directors recommends shareholders approve the Sprint (S) offer to buy the company for $3.40 per share. A voting date is set for May 31. [View news story]
In my opinion, every Clearwire board member (Idiots) that voted in favor of the wonderful Sprint offer at $2.97 should be forced to sell any shares they have at that price ($2.97). I think whatever Clearwires board says is BS anyway, they would have recommended selling the company to Sprint for a nice meal off the dollar menu at McDonalds and $2 in gas money. Also, for this "new" meeting scheduled for May 31st: doesnt the vote tally the proxy that offered up CLWR at $2.97 the only one of record on that date? Even though S offered more I would assume that the vote will fail anyway since it will be using the proxy from earlier this month. I made sure to have all 26,870 shares I have control of to vote against, and made sure other people I know that had shares voted against as well. Sprint can go screw themselves! Only good thing I can say about the situation was that I bought Sprint under $2.40 and majority of CLWR under $1.60.
Sprint (S) raises its offer for Clearwire (CLWR) to $3.40/share ahead of today's shareholder vote on a $2.97/share offer, which was widely expected to be shot down. The revised offer, which trumps Dish's (DISH) $3.30/share bid and has been sent to Clearwire's board for review, is said to have the support of Comcast, Intel, and Bright House, who collectively own 26% of Clearwire shares not held by Sprint. Nonetheless, Clearwire +6.1% to $3.46, above the offer price. Sprint +1.1%. (previous) [View news story]
Lol, Sprint saw that they would lose the vote. I think they will have to offer more than $3.40 to be able to get the majority of the minority to vote in favor of $3.40 since they already pissed away six months keeping CLWR in the $3 range. I think they may need to increase the offer to $3.75 or $4.00 since even before today CLWR had already traded higher than the new $3.40 offer.

Not really related to the article, but did anyone else notice that Intrade went out of business? I must be the last person on Earth to realize this, but after going to the site daily during the elections I decided to visit the page today just for the heck of it, and apparently the company went out of business in March. Does anyone know exactly why?

Clearwire and Sprint can take their proposed offer and stuff it. I have voted over 30,000 shares against. The fact they mention the premium the offer is at compared to what Google, Time Warner, etc sold at is pointless. Next Tuesday should be interesting and I hope the vote is a big fail for the proposals.
Clearwire (CLWR -3.1%) slid further towards Sprint's (S) $2.97/share offer price after Egan-Jones joined fellow shareholder advisory firm ISS (previous) in backing Sprint's bid ahead of a May 21 vote. Nonetheless, given the number of shares owned by dissident investors, many still think a higher bid will be needed. [View news story]

If you received the Gold Proxy from Crest it will explain to you the appraisal rights question.

Darn skippy a higher offer will be needed. Everyone I know that has shares of CLWR have already voted against Sprints merger offer. For many people this is the first time they ever voted on a proxy. So I know there are about 30,000 no (against) votes to go along with Crest's no votes.

Bill,
Now that Google is launching premium channels on YouTube for I think $1.99 a month do you see that as a major threat to Netflix in the near future? In previous comments on this string I kept on reiterating that Netflix content is stale and I can watch more shows on YouTube I actually like free and just as conveniently on my TV, Phone, Computer, etc. as Netflix.. Actually more conveniently. Just wondering your take. Thank you.
Google Should Buy NII Holdings Before Tower Sale Is Done [View article]
I appreciate your article and your response. I just dont see NIHD as anything Google would have any interest in. Google was one of the major initial investors in Clearwire which in the US has everything and way more (existing towers, leases, and spectrum) than the NIHD network could offer for them in South America. Google sold off their huge position in Clearwire some time back. It is just my opinion that it makes no sense for Google to have any interest in purchasing NIHD (especially having to deal with multiple governments, regulations, restrictions on spectrum, and ownership in different countries). Now DTV, SoftBank, or possibly Carlos Slim would be way further up on my list of possibilities. I do appreciate your article, and I think that shareholders of NIHD stand to make a nice gain regardless of them being bought out in the not too far off future. If I were Google I would be setting my sites on Netflix right now, since it would not be very hard for YouTube to get legit good content and bring Netflix to their knees.

I must admit I skimmed the article and missed why you feel GOOG would want anything to do with NIHD. I dont think there is any reason that GOOG would want to purchase the company. In my opinion you could probably make a better case for DTV or SoftBank to be the real parties that would be more likely to put NIHD in their sights. DTV has a huge satellite subscriber base in South America and it would make more sense for them to be interested (case and point DISH bid for Sprint in the US). Also, in my opinion if SoftBank ends up walking from the Sprint deal, then it is likely they could weigh the possibilities of expanding into South America rater than North America ( Or heck, maybe both ). Anyone else have thoughts? I do like NIHD stock, I had purchased many shares around $5 this winter and sold them all off at $8.35 since I assumed the momentum would start to head downwards after earnings.

Good article. I have shares of GLUU and COOL. I think that they provide a nice opportunity for upside. I had to laugh when I read your article when you mentioned the Majesco game baller beats. I had never heard of it before and as you stated it is a terrible idea. Do you think there could ever be a chance of Disney acquiring COOL?

The stock has been having a good run. I sold all of the NIHD shares I had yesterday. The total gain on the NIHD shares I sold is 46%. I think the stock could keep going up, but I decided to lock in the gain. I wonder if we are going to have any more posts from the goof that said NIHD was going to zero.

I think that Crest is just a very very wealthy family's trust. Any family that has enough money to offer 240 million loan to a public company probably didnt get that wealthy by making bad investments. GriffAlpha, what do you think of ALU stock? I am wondering what your thoughts are. Also, could you look into WILN and let me know what you think of that company? Thank you sir.

Did you mean gjasick? I have never worked for a telecom company. I just invest in stocks. I actually have Verizon for mobile service, AT&T for business as well as home internet, and Sprint and Clearwire as a large position of investment portfolios. What telecom stocks out there do you like Danl_P?
