  • Here's The Best Way To Invest In Gold, And It's Not What Investors Might Expect [View article]
    Bob-

This is certainly a contrarian investor approach. FCX's exposure will be beneficial if the metals and oil rise. If we go into a global slump, it will be hurt. I own it because I am a contrarian and because I like the dividend. Let's hope it is a good call.

Thanks, Bret. Some good observations and concerns. Are you still holding strong on old favorites like AAPL? And as an avowed contrarian investor, are you considering any portion of the precious metals sector? Thanks.

That's true, IncomeYield. But at a much slower rate than the highly leveraged funds.

Interesting thesis. And simple. I'm not sure that gold doesn't have further to fall, but there are a few factors favorable to gold. One question, though. How do we get accurate numbers on China's demand? And how do we know what percentage of that is internally produced? Thanks.

  • Concerned About A Market Correction? Here Are 5 Mitigation Tools [View article]
Interesting article and some good points. I usually don't like leveraged ETFs, but will have to study for hedging strategy with TMV. As far as TVIX, that has been a poor hedge for a while. Volatility has not been as explosive as it has in the past, so TVIX has been pretty flat. And, as with all leveraged funds, it can go down quickly and there is always the threat of a reverse split. Why not go with something like SDS if the desire is a bear market fund?

You indeed raised concerns over the summer about this stock. Any prospects of this company being bought, presumably for its intellectual property/developments?

Nope, you pretty much pegged this one. Now its time for all of the SA contributors to step forward and support their cheers. And if not, perhaps they should retire from contributing....

Agreed. A lot of angst has been generated in precious metals investing, so I wanted to be sure that was clarified. Any plans to review other ETFs? Or will you limit your review only to GLD and SLV because you refer to those funds in your articles? Thanks.

    Avi-

Thanks for bringing these concerns about the GLD fund to our attention. Concerns about that particular fund have generated comments on SA for years. However, is it fair or even accurate to clump all of "these ETFs" together, which implies the inclusion of the other precious metal ETFs listed in the article header? Should we assume that all of them, including the IAU, the new OUNZ fund, SGOL, or even the Sprott funds have similar hazards? I think some clarification might be warranted. Thanks again.
