Restaurants Hit Hard Times as Two File for Bankruptcy
Filet, they all scare me. I think something like Panera might do well only because its where a lot of people who used to sit down for a full service meal will end up going when they can't afford it but want a step up from "truly" fast food.

If you don't have international exposure, in spades, you will have tough times in the next 18-30 months IMO. Or serve the very low end. Sort of the "Walmartization&q... of food. McDonald's should continue to thrive in such an environment.

p.s. you guys have some hilarious screen names in the comment section ;)

Exactech: Buy Now, or Wait for Earnings?
Chandler your article was more than excellent - among the best I've read on this site.

Yes earnings tonight were impressive. I simply have to say I am surprised they can compete with the big boys in this space but whatever they are doing seems to be working.

I bet you've been waiting a long time for any other soul in this world to write a story about this quiet little performer :)

If you have time shoot over to my site and send me an email; I have an "unprofitable&quo... no name stock I'd like to run by you in the "healthcare" field. This is not my expertise area but from your site you seem to like the biotech/medical area.

Solar Stocks: Cutting Back on Three Names
Wow, what a series of comments. I didn't realize it was just a dramatic story.

Jack, I agree solar technicals mean nothing. I sold these late yesterday (Seeking Alpha posted it today) on the spike.

People confuse a specific strategy with a bear call or bull call on a sector. When stocks break down this bad I like to sell when they bounce and then re-assess. More than happy to purchase them a bit higher. Other people say they "buy on weakness" but that is easy to say. People said buy Trina when it fell from $52 to $45. Then $42. Then $38. Then $35. Then $33. Then $30. Then $28. Then $26

Then they say gotcha! I told you to buy on weakness.

it is very easy to propose a "theory"

I like the chart on ENER right now and away we go. Its a bear market. With earnings some of these stocks will be up 20% in an instant and some down 20%, and someone will come and say how stupid to sell the one up 20%, and down 20%. Now if someone could just tell me today which one of these names will be the one up 20% off earnings and which down? That would be helpful. Instead of telling me post earnings.

Last, I do believe Trina has subprime exposure - there can be no other explanation for a stock that trades at 50% value of its peers ;)
Later folks. I'm a bull on the sector, I will be for years. That doesn't mean they trade in a vacuum and/or I did not sell at the bottom. Its part of a greater strategy of conserving capital. Gamblers will "buy on the way down". Of course they will nail the bottom, or so they will say. I'm just not that talented to nail the bottoms like the peanut gallery ;)

Illumini, Intuitive: This Healthcare Outperformance Brought to You by the Letter 'I'
      Hi User,

The "renewables" are the blade part of the model. The machines are the razors. In the long run the beauty of the business model will be the reoccuring revenue from many a blade.

There was some scuttebutt last quarter about the economic slowdown hurting hospitals ability to finance the purchases but it appears this was overblown - but it was one cause of the pressure in the stock the last 90 days.

Very unique company - that is for sure.

Also keep in mind that the SEC has banned naked short selling on most of the major financial names this week ;)
Now the question is after watching how well it works will they extend the ban to next week

SKF now in low 120s - getting more juicy. Would love to see low $110s, lol - down 50% in just over a week!

Wez, starting to edge back into SKF as the oversold condition works off. Hoping for a bit more of a rally into financials in which I can get a better price for SKF

SRS I have been buying here the past 48 hours

todd, only problem with RTH is Walmart is #1 holding @ nearly quarter of the ETF. As people flee away from stores they used to be able to afford they go to Walmart. So you are not getting a direct benefit.

Much like homebuilders, financials et al - you can short these groups about 80% the past year. The other 20% of the time they are rallying on either (a) short covering or (b) pundits screaming about an imminent recovery that never comes. So you have to pick your spots since the reversals are hot and heavy.

Michael, great job on your analysis. While I don't agree 100% I agree with a lot of it. What you wrote is superior to 75% of what is on the site so very good for your first piece.

As for Pitchel there is a personal beef there so take the "analysis" with a grain of salt.

My only sadness is you are aspiring to be an analyst - you seem much brighter than that part of the business :) aim higher. Good luck.

      Monsanto: Good Results, Higher Expectations
I'd wait for further pullback myself. Valuation is rich. Its 50 day moving average is where it currently sits so you might layer in a buy here if you have no position to begin a stake.

It depends on how bad the market gets - if we get the waterfall type of selling in Jan and March 08 you will see a move down to 200 day. If we are near exhaustion on the selling it should hold here. I tend towards the former myself, but clearly am guessing as we all are.

Encore Acquisition Is an Attractive Takeover Target
      Chandler,
I don't think there is another executive on earth who buys as much as Mr McClendon. Hence to compare any company to CHK, it is going to look like they don't believe in their company.

But yes it would be a nice point for management to do. That said, it still trades at discount to peers with or without acquisition. Thanks

Always notice when a strategy does not work out - people are quick to criticize. But when it does work out - the "commentators&quo... at the top of the comments section never came back to say "good call" . ;)

      Humans are funny like that.

"clean coal" is a misnomer - its a term politicians and the industry throw around - there is no such thing. There is "cleaner" coal, but "clean" no way.

Note - I am a coal bull... but I am stating the reality.

Then again ENER has not really made any moves to fill that gap either hah.
