  • Do You Trust The Fed? [View article]
Brad you have lost most of your credibility in your last few posts which are filled with political rhetoric. Every opportunity to bash a democratic pol or blame financial problems on a democrat. You come across simply as a republican party apologist, not an unbiased analyst. And the desciples junp in on the comments.

Thanks for another good article. We are hearing a lot about the death of retail. Is ARCP adjusting for the loss of income from retailers that will soon be closing or ratcheting down and closing store fronts?

  • Which Do You Prefer? [View article]
    Thanks for your response,

If after the company pays 90% of income it and does not have funds or decides not to pay the preferred interest, it still is obligated to meet the obligation if the preferred is cumulative.
The cumulative feature remains a positive.
In the end we choose companies we feel are strong and are not at risk of deferring the preferred payments. So a cumulative obligation may be a plus but a decision to buy is far outweighed by the strength of the company.

  • Which Do You Prefer? [View article]
"As a REIT, the company must continue paying the dividend on the common stock-thereby negating the positive of the preferreds being cumulative"
Can you give a more detailed explanation for this contention.

  • Insiders Are Buying Banc Of California [View article]
Easy enough to check. According to the August Form 4 filings of the three insiders they purchased 7,500 shares on the open market between $14.44 and $14.81. On the average somewhat higher than this weeks closing price. I am long the 7.5% senior note trading at about a $0.50 premium. It's looking better now that I know insiders are on board buying rather than simply exercising options at a discount,

  • I Would Be Cautious With JMP Group [View article]
I own JMP's recently issued 8% senior debt (JMPB) which is trading at par presently. I don't feel threatened by lack of growth as long as default is unlikely. Would you worry about that.

  • Imperial Capital lifts its target price on Magnum Hunter Resources (MHR) to $4 from $3 following Q1 results that beat expectations. With the sale of its Eagle Ford operations, MHR's focus is on the development of its Appalachian and Williston basin operations, the firm says; MHR remains committed to the divestiture of $100M-$200M in non-core assets. MHR is now current with all SEC filings, the firm adds. [View news story]
Brilliant!! On the day the issue is trading at $4 they raise the target from $3. What do I do now sell? Of course I would have been out of it long ago if I took the $3 target seriously.

  • New 7.50% Preferred Stock, Get In While You Can [View article]
NRF has posted substantial losses for 10 consecutive quarters but has been raising it div on the common at the same time. CYS has posted smaller losses and only for the last two quarters while substantially lowering the common div at the same time. How are we supposed to make sense of all this? Are they both high risk for the preferred.
