  • Annaly Offers A Compelling 14.3% Dividend Yield [View article]
Yep, not investing. When someone rings the alarm of rising interests these stocks can drop double-digit percentages in seconds, not enough time to get out. One year of nice dividends or so (if buying now) before interests are raised won't offset the losses to principal. I wish I would have gotten in on AGNC's train earlier.

    Todd,
When interest rates eventually rise, how do you think it will affect mREITs, in terms of dividend yield? I mean clearly we have had higher interest rates before. This is the only thing keeping me from investing in REITs.

  • Shorting Treasuries With The TBF: A Historic Opportunity [View article]
Nothing wrong with pointing out Treasury's bubble, but TBT/TBF is not the way to trade it due to their decay/flaws. One will be better out buying puts on Treasuries through LEAPS.

  • The year’s biggest stock market losers are going out in style. First Solar (FSLR), the S&P's worst performer this year - down 74% - is +2.8% today. Alpha Natural Resources (ANR) and Netflix (NFLX), second and third most pathetic, are +4.2% and +0.3%, respectively. Even Bank of America (BAC), the Dow's biggest dog, is +1.9%.  [View news story]
Everybody that needed tax-loss selling did so already.

  • Treasurys dip still lower after the year wraps up with an uninspiring seven-year note auction: the 30-year yield +0.08 to 3%, 10-year +0.05 to 1.98%; five-year +0.03 to 0.92%; two-year +0.02 to 0.28%.  [View news story]

  • The ECB just expanded its balance sheet by 20% this morning, notes Louise Cooper of BCG Partners, putting today's funding operation in perspective. This comes on top of the past few months' galloping increase in bank footings. The wordmeisters in Brussels can call it what they like, but QE is underway in Europe.  [View news story]
Markets will keep falling unless someone calls this "QE"... even though this is what it is. Needs to be said.

  • Today In Commodities: Crude Higher For Third Day [View article]
I enjoy reading Matthew Bradbard, but more of his comments are usually bearish along the lines of "expect more downside..." Rarely does he mentions a bullish turn on anything. Too safe.
