  • TechRadar provides the first meaningful review of Microsoft Surface. Its comments are mostly positive, praising Surface's design, ergonomics, and keyboard covers, as well as the performance of apps on Windows RT (MSFT). However, commentary about its software is relatively light. TechRadar's verdict: "Surface doesn't feel like an iPad (AAPL) in your hands; it feels like a well-designed Windows tablet crammed with clever touches that make it practical."  (earlier)  [View news story]
If Windows RT is killer, why is MS planning a second, incompatible OS?

  • The U.S. launch of Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy S III is off to a good start. Sprint (S) and AT&T (T) are reporting shortages following huge pre-orders, and Verizon may only be off the hook because it set a July 9 ship date. Samsung is planning a huge marketing campaign for the S III to maintain its momentum ahead of the next-gen iPhone's (AAPL) expected fall launch. Reviews for both the U.S. and international versions of the S III have been mostly positive. (component suppliers)  [View news story]
If you want a shit phone, buy the SIII.

  • Microsoft (MSFT) will unveil plans to make its own Windows 8 tablets at a much-speculated L.A. event on Monday, sources tell The Wrap and AllThingsD. It's claimed Microsoft, like Google, has decided it needs its own no-compromise hardware to compete with Apple (AAPL), and that it could sell both ARM-based (ARMH) and Intel/AMD tablets. The move could rankle some PC OEMs, especially given reports Microsoft will charge huge license fees for Windows 8 tablets.  [View news story]
More unoriginal garbage from the ultimate in tech copycats. What happened to the Zune? And why didn't the strange iPhone funeral come true? And why did Ballmer laugh at the iPhone in 2007?

Because! Microsoft has no vision. They have no taste. They couldn't design themselves out of a wet paper bag. Every Windows 8 tablet will go the way of the Zune.

  • Apple's (AAPL) efforts to stop the June 21 launch of Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) flagship Galaxy S III have been denied by U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh, who appears to be getting fed up with the enormous volume of lawsuits being thrown around. A trial is now set for July 30 - expect the Galaxy S III, which has seen huge pre-orders and will be sold by all 4 nationwide carries, to do brisk business between now and then.  [View news story]
Patents are enshrined in the Constitution. I suppose you believe the Constitution is anti-capitalist, too. If you consider why the frames included it, you'll see where you went wrong.

  • It's Tim Cook's Apple Now [View article]
Google and Samsung are not leaders. I can't say it any more succinctly than that they are followers. They copied the iPhone platform. Copier = follower.

Notice, I didn't say anything about being better, either.

To say Google and Samsung are leaders in smartphones is like saying Xerox is a leader in book publishing.

  • 9to5 Mac provides the latest rumor about the next iPhone sporting a larger display. According to its source, Apple (AAPL) has two iPhone prototypes in testing that sport a 3.95" display with an 1136x640 resolution (the 4S' display has a 960x640 resolution), which indicates a wider aspect ratio. It's added Apple is testing versions of iOS 6 that are custom-built for the larger display. If the rumor is true, some developers might not be thrilled about the change in dimensions. • Apple Is Almost In The 'Buy Zone' [View article]
How much would you pay to earn $50 in one year? $644 is pretty cheap. Apple's been in the buy zone for at least ten years.

  • Apple's Drop Now Too Large To Ignore [View article]
You missed volume. Volume has been super low during the recent slide. The current ridiculously low price doesn't have a lot of support. Once the weak-kneed shareholders are bought out, the stock will rebound.

  • Apple Unlikely To Report Less Than $64 In EPS In FY2012: A Look At Recent History [View article]
"crushes those figures every quarter in an under-promise over-deliver strategy (minus Calendar Q3 2011)"

This is incorrect. Apple beat their own estimates in that quarter, too.

  • Barclays' Ben Reitzes, bullish as ever (previous) on Apple (AAPL -0.2%), thinks there could be upside to his forecast of 14.2M June quarter iPad sales, which itself represents a 20% Q/Q increase. In the September quarter, Reitzes expect sales to reach 15.9M. He adds Barclays sees some evidence of an "iPad Mini" in Apple's supply chain. The iPad appears to have gained share in Q1.  [View news story]

  • CNNMoney's David Goldman talked with 10 Verizon (VZ, VOD) sales reps, and found all of them recommending he buy a 4G LTE Android model instead of an iPhone. Others report similar experiences. Verizon probably isn't motivated by hostility towards Apple (AAPL), but by an interest in offloading its surging mobile data traffic onto its high-capacity LTE network. It recently mentioned all of its future smartphone releases will support LTE.  [View news story]
