  • Chipotle: An Actionable Short [View article]
Great article and great comments! But maybe I just feel that way because I am short - holding a Jun400put. Will admit that I shorted and lost once already but feel better this time because of above comments. Also have less at stake than 1st time thanks to huge loss from previous short ... all part of the plan.

  • Yum Brands (YUM) issues an apology for its KFC Thailand unit that issued a Facebook posting shortly after tsunami warnings were posted in the nation urging users to "hurry home" to watch the earthquake news alongside a bucket of KFC chicken. The company was swamped by complaints after the posting. [View news story]
Thanks idiots! Hope those guys are enjoying a bucket of chicken while they're reading their pink slip.

  • Molycorp: Don't Buy Into The Hype [View article]
What many do not seem to understand is that calling the stock price movement (up or down) is not at all the issue. The issue is the author's research and reasoning - both of which lack any reference to or reliance upon relevant facts. As for the deductive reasoning, you gotta be kidding me.

I don't care if someone's stance is different than mine. I don't even care if it results in me losing money while others gain. That's what a market is. Just don't expect me to give any credit for choosing the right direction when the argument is akin to - I talked to the Easter Bunny and he said it was going down. I am long MCP.

  • Confessions Of A Chipotle Short [View article]
I appreciate the frankness of your article. Too many people try too hard to make it look like they knew all along which way a stock would go. I have more admiration for those who stand by their convictions, right or wrong. Not because they're stubborn, but because they honestly feel that the available info points towards a stock going up or down in the future and are willing to take a stand even if others feel the opposite and it ends with losses. Anything short of that is truly just playing with money - no rhyme or reason, just buying and selling based on fear of losing, fear of being wrong, or a desire to be in line with the masses.

If all SA contributors touted their correct calls and faded away quietly on their incorrect calls or were just too scared/embarassed to publish their incorrect calls then the whole purpose of educating each other in this investor forum kind of goes out the window.

Thanks for the info and your perspective and keeping it real. Good luck to you ... and me. At the risk of appearing biased I will say that I too am short cmg and feeling the pain but am sticking with it because of many of the reasons you point out.

Thanks Duru, nice article. Thanks for gathering the data and presenting it in a well-written and fairly objective piece.

What's your opinion on the recent legal action or more specifically the claims that MCP is not on target with production and budget?

Very, very informative article and incredibly well-researched data from my amateur perspective. Agree w/RyanH - will have to try and read this a few more times. And to think, this is only part 2 of 3!

Do you have opinions on the recent legal developments or the ability of MCP to meet deadlines?

  • Using Yum Dividends (Undeclared) For Protection [View article]
I'm curious why you didn't mention Cantina Bell menu. This is attempt at chipping away CMG market share. Granted, Taco Bell is smallest segment, but considering potential business I thought it was significant news. They're running trials in select locs.

fa - Yep, the lack of insider buy back has me worried too.

Just an fyi to the last sentence in your comment - "Bottomline ... as our foreign policy concerns shift towards China, away from Afghanistan ..." Did you read that USGS conducted surveys in Afg under US troop protection 2009-11 for ree's?

I haven't looked into what the results were but I thought that was a cool fact that also lends credence to the argument that the current situation and future need (nat'l reserves) is viewed by our gov't to be impt enough to send in armed troops in an already hot war zone to cover some USGS dudes while they conduct surveys for ree deposits. Dog help Afg if we found a big concentration :)

  • More on CSX earnings: Current CFO Oscar Munoz is named COO, replacing David Brown, who is no longer with the company. Shipments of utility coal declined Y/Y as electricity providers took advantage of low natural gas prices. The company noted flat intermodal volumes as domestic growth was offset by "weak international demand."  Shares -3% AH.  [View news story]
Oscar is a director on the board at UAL. They haven't done so well but then again Oscar is one of the smaller holders so maybe he's got some smarts.

MCP secured all necessary permits in 12/10 and they are currently posting and hiring for mining operations. They even have a video of the mining site showing numerous buildings and facilities being erected. Seems like a lot of effort just to maintain a farce.

And really, you don't think that the companies that signed partnerships with and provided financing to MCP might have done just a bit more D&D than us novice investors and made sure that this company and their plans are viable?
