  • Alibaba to launch video streaming service [View news story]
Wondering how Yoku will 'fit' in this design? At a minimum the content they create will be purchased and have more distribution, then there will be the advertising and cross marketing. More than likely Yoku has to be part of the Alibaba netflix-it practically is already. It's more accurate to suggest that Netflix is copying Yoku of late with the advent of commercials.

  • Jakks Pacific Looks Enticing At $7 Level And Upcoming 4th Quarter Earnings [View article]
All I know is they were out of singing Elsa dolls at the Disney store in Florence and they told me more would be in latter and check back. Those dolls where selling for double in certain markets via Ebay. One of the 2015 toy fair items is sing 'along' Elsa doll- has a microphone and gonna assume more songs and hopeful will come equipped with a new song or 2 from the upcoming short release (but guessing that would be an exclusive deal which Disney would have to charge big bucks for).

  • Disney's 'Frozen' Deal With Hasbro Strengthens Franchise, Sets Up Likely Sequel [View article]
People fighting over the Singing Snow Glow Elsa doll in Europe and sold out here- thing the Tow Truck toy is also- could have made some money buying up the Elsa dolls and selling them for twice the price on Ebay, but not willing to do the leg work. Prices on Amazon are about double on the tow truck toy and Elsa- yikes. There will be naysayers coming out in droves on this one-'margins high, one hit wonder, etc'.

Forgot to mention that LGF (one of your/our favorites) is tied in with the upcoming Power Rangers movie. Believe JAKK has contracts with Saban. I won't get into the BABBA relationship- but does not hurt.

I'm wondering if JAKK was extremely lucky to have made the vast majority of money off of the Frozen dolls while the demand is very high and just when they move on from Frozen, the Star Wars demand will be hot again (aka- strike while the iron is hot). This does not account for the 2nd + Frozen movies. Then there is the possibility that there is enough demand that JAKK will continue to have many Frozen items selling beyond 2016. With the re-branding of so many properties (Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Power Rangers), it is hard to imagine that all boats will not rise with the tide. It looks like JAKK is on the right path and they can't be blamed for not having the massive market cap to keep pace with Disney's massive product demand.

How does Disney deal with HAS on Frozen affect JAKK's frozen sales and possible buyout from DIS? I am leaning toward 'all boats rise' with brands from DIS and Star Wars, etc. The details regarding the prices for the JAKK vs the upcoming HAS Frozen toys would be great information or simply what a "very good period of time" is.

PS- had read 'somewhere' that 5 new factories in China are producing JAKK's Frozen toy's to supply the demand.

With the Star Wars coming up, the timing of JAKK's seems very fortunate in handing over the reigns of it's Frozen dominance to HAS, if that is in fact what is happening.

Already in the money on some HAS calls, but slightly in the red on JAKK 2015 calls-may cost avg down with more JAKK based upon your input.

  • Why I Initiated A Position In Mattel [View article]
Curious about the Star Wars/ MAT business. Does/will Disney do contracts with all the toy companies or do they sell the rights to whoever comes up with the best toys. What is MAT history with Star Wars figures and what percentage of the business did they get before? I definitely think that all boats will rise with the Star Wars refresh, but Disney is not playing games with the amount of money they want to make with the brand. Barbie dying off seems like a good thing- she seems to be anorexic and not representative of anyone but a few freaks on the internet. Toys may be less popular due to all the devises / pads / phones out there- they are the new toy with video that the kids want to play with, esp because the adults probably play with those toys also.

Patiently waiting. If not non-GAAP profitable in 2014, I'll wait until 2015 and beyond for them to start beating expectations- the infrastructure is built and growing.

  • Lionsgate: Ender's Game Loses [View article]
Just 2 minutes of research and you find that Ender's was hedged with investments from Digital Domain and OddLot and foreign sales where pre-sold. Think they have a 25% stake in the film.

Ahh here it is- via Bloomberg "OddLot Entertainment, a film company founded by Hyatt Hotels Corp. heiress Gigi Pritzker, and Digital Domain, a special effects firm, have invested in the production, according to Lions Gate. The studio’s equity stake in the film is 25 percent, officials said on an Aug. 9 conference call."

I will mention that the article from Bloomberg was shortsighted also in considering the value this movie has in residuals and adding to the 'content is king' war-chest. This should express my sentiment toward this article, although there is anticipation regarding the success of Divergent.

A short list of reasons that the 25% stake in Ender's should not concern you -sequels to 'Now you see me' will make more money, the possibility of another Twilight book/movie in a few years, the fact that they know how to make money on a 2 to 30 million dollar movie, as you mentioned TV, Epix stake, International and domestic distribution, continued emergence of streaming and content wars, the list could go on, but not sure why I bothered.

  • Current Stock Price Offers The Ideal Moment To Buy Frontier [View article]
Counting on your thesis to be correct and/ or a buyout. Read that a satellite company has already made an offer. With the European market heating up with talk of ATT buying Vodaphone, Nokia buying ALU, Vodaphone buying Kabel Deutschland- there has got to be some consolidation here in the USA. Not sure why Europe is such a great place for the bundling though, the USA still has plenty of room to grow.

  • Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation: Not Just A Movie Business [View instapost]
I'll be adding to my position despite some fear that a few movies planned for franchise successes may work out. The Enders and Divergent movies could in fact not be the replacements for the Twilight franchise currently being ended. But this company has a track record that shows they will eventually come up with a 'win'. When MVL Entertainment was growing, many 'experts' wrote that consumers would tire of hero movies and they only had Spiderman. They are writing and will write articles claiming that Hunger Games is a one trick pony, it's just predictable.
