The sharing, peer-to-peer, excess capacity wave is starting to build.
The Ubers don't work without telecomm.

    Telemedicine is just getting going.

The next wave is the Internet of connected things.

T and VZ get a piece of damn near everything in some way.

  • Saudi Arabia reiterates no cut to output [View news story]
Wow Leo are you saying those December crude tankers that are slow to clear are not really out there?

That the physical market is ripping? That oil is selling like crazy?

This is only a US dollar issue?

    Heading to where though?

"At $60 a barrel, only three of the top 40 international oil companies generate sufficient free cash flow to cover spending, including distribution to shareholders, Wood Mackenzie said."

Are readers here trying to trade oil itself or the O&G company stocks, or the bonds?

Who is we? The Saudis included?
They would rather sell two barrels at $50, than one at $100.

  • Retirement Strategy: I Am Already Retired, Now What? [View article]
    Bob,

What/when is fairly valued? After years of central bank craziness and corp financial engineering, what stocks are "fairly" valued for meaningful significant position?

This article in question is a relatively small portfolio that is meaningless in yield or potential cap gains to any retiree needing to earn $5,000 to $10,000 per month from their portfolio.

    Pend,

Not sure you are hearing mrobert.

Today, for a retiree let's say 60+, too old to make it back should they lose it, who needs income, where do they put their ONLY $2 million dollars?

I ask this question all the time, and no one answers.

Now, you are 40 years old and a high paid cosmetic surgeon with insurance policies should you get hurt. You love your work and plan to work another 40 years. You have $2 million laying around earning zip. Now, where should that $2 mill go?

Exactly. If you are not going to take a meaningful, significant position, than why take it.

How many retirees can pay their bills with a 3% (maybe taxable) yield and sleep at night with stocks?

Most retirees are in the the "too old" to make it back category.
Somebody bought XOM, CVX, MCD, T, and COP considerably higher from here. Maybe they return to their highs and continue upward, but maybe they don't.

Let's say you need just $5000 per month. At 3% "coupon", that's 2 million bucks. $2 million ain't chump change. You gonna put the entire 2 mill in stocks?

  • Goldman downgrades Verizon [View news story]
Didn't most everyone have a $55 target for VZ not too long ago?

With the Internet and smartphones at the intersection of most everything, T & VZ benefit every time anyone does almost anything.

Up next is the sharing/excess capacity wave -- Uber, etc.
Then, connecting things is on the way.

What he means is that over a long period you will earn the decay of both.
Depending on when and what you choose, one could consistently almost daily skyrocket I guess leaving the other in the dust.

Might work with something you know will cycle.
Wait for it .... oil & gas maybe?
