  • Apple's Magic Is Broken [View article]
Apple will be a victim of its own success similar to Microsoft.
With tens of millions of devices in use, backward compatibility becomes an issue and a big hassle. Cut the cord on the existing base to move forward "forcing" an upgrade and they scream foul.

Maintain backward compatibility and the new models look just so-so.

Yeah, Ben must be overjoyed that Apple used his "stimulus" to buy back shares instead of hiring people. :)

How are those Apple 30-year bonds working out so far ???

I first went Apple, and all Apple with the iPhone5,and iPad3. So far, zero problems and greater productivity than I thought. No more email or vmail. Text messages mainly using Siri. I try to continually eliminate vendors and applications - simplify. Waiting for iPayments to get rid of credit cards.

That said, the UI/UX is at best OK, and one could argue fair to poor.

Keep your eye on Chrome devices. Could be a game changer. I plan to try them.

Screen size is one factor, the other major issue I find in my focus group is the ease of getting files on and off a device. The iPhone and iPad are more "closed". The iPhone is more of a smartphone and less of a phablet. The tweener group wants one device that is more like a small computer with cell phone capability vs. a phone with rudimentary computing capability.
Apple should "open" it up at the risk of added complexity, support problems and cannibalization of other devices.

Another issue is the BYOD movement. I guessed that corps would not allow and/or support a bunch of devices and OSs and that Apple would benefit as a result since they would be the obvious standard.

  • Why Apple Is Becoming Irrelevant [View article]
I have posted about "convergence". The trend would not be good for Apple since one device (from apple or a competitor) could replace 3 or 4 devices from Apple.

    phablet = smartphone+tablet+note... ....

The iPhone alone has converged a bunch of devices already for many users.

"Secure domain names are an integral part of securing the next generation 4G/LTE wireless networks. All 4G mobile devices will require their own individual secure domain name and become part of a secure domain name registry."

Then go buy one of the Registrar's.
Take us through how and why every mobile device will need their own https domain name?

Yeah, put it in the app store for 8 bucks -- good idea.

VPN??? These users are probably still shelling out to DOS and running WordPerfect also. :)

Microsoft was strained by trying to maintain backward compatibility and old apps for everyone.

  • Apple: Not As Cheap As You Think [View article]
The space is saturated and mature for now. The next big, must have apps IMO are iPayments and iMedDevices.

Either, or and a new wave of upgrades and new buyers.

They are working on a multi-billion dollar circular all glass office building with apple orchards in the middle. Yikes!

The 4 vs. 5? What? Customers are just as irrational as the shareholders.

The 5 is the first "real" smartphone that can be used to browse the web practically speaking.

  • Apple $395: Time To Give Up And Abandon Ship? [View article]
Yup, that's it. Damned if you do ... has kicked in.

Stable or increasing margins, a re-acceleration of iPhone sales (maybe 4g china mobile deal) and a clear plan that makes recurring revenue from the installed base -- not iTune either, maybe iPayments.

His point is that self-directed investors hear a $1000 price target on TV, they hit buy, and blow themselves up.

In the old days, they would have firewalls to cross before taking a significant position in a clearly over-owned stock.

MDs and other professionals make the same comment about every 5 minutes -- "I hate the Internet". :)

Nope, Apple's competition is their own umbrella they left to high.
They left too much room for competitors to crawl under.

Microsoft was smart in the old days. They set the bar so low that nobody could (or would bother) to compete at their dollar store prices.

I have always posted that more money will be lost (both LONG and SHORT) than will be made trading this name.

A lot of money will be made and saved buying and using Apple products.

Yes, but Apple needs to make it easier to get data and files on and off the iPhone/iPad at the risk of iMac sales.

Do a real file system with "save as".

Listen to the Galaxy buyers, they might be stupid, but they aren't crazy! :)
