  • Investors Are Missing Apple's China Opportunity [View article]
"China Moblie doesn't even have a 3G network, and won't have one for another 2 years."

They have their own TD-SCDMA 3G with 4G on the way. News reports slate 2013 for 4G mainly to support iPhone properly.

You can initiate conversations with companies in Shenzhen on Skype. They are happy to talk about Apple. Look them up on alibaba.
You might want to re-visit the Foxconn comment.

  • A Fallen Apple Equals A Gift To Investors Even If Sales And Margins Decline [View article]
Remember, this stock is likely still way over-owned. Probably 7 to 10% in many funds and institutions. If they scale back to the usual 1 to 2% (even 5%), could be more selling.

I posted years ago that a free smartphone with 2-year subscription razor/razor blade model was a possibility.

Like the PC industry years ago, "profitless prosperity".
Does Apple maintain monster profits and margins in a high end niche (if you can call 50% market share a niche) or do they get down in the trenches and try to take almost all market share?

If the stock had run up 20 pts today on some "news", your post would have been 180 degrees different. :)

  • Apple's Story: Only The Beginning? [View article]
Everyone in my group has iPhone5 and iPad3. We will upgrade for biometric security and iPayments. Dump or leave my credit cards at home!

Bigger screen is not a big deal, but the younger fence sitters I see are opting for the bigger Samsung.

I talk to people in China almost everyday. They are "pissed". In part because of warranty issues (whatever that means) but interestingly they feel they should get a deal. Afterall, the phone is made in China (so no shipping costs) on the backs of Chinese laborers. $800 is an insult to them it seems, and not affordable.

  • Reflections On The Current State Of Apple [View article]
Predicting what Apple will do (and their customers) is much easier than predicting what the shareholder base will do in response.

Yeah, the larger screen is winning right now in my informal focus groups. I use and need the combo, iPhone/iPad. A tweener though is an interesting idea and might work for many.

I'm waiting for iPay. Will make life easier, even though PayPal so far has helped. :)

  • Apple Offers Investors An Annualized Gross Return Of Between 0% And 15% Over The Next 5 Years [View article]
For me it is the one stop shopping, and ecosystem. The UI is really not that great IMO. Too busy, too much movement, too artsy, unintuitive -- "too many notes, just cut a few". :)

But, won't touch WinTel or SamDroid kludges. Too much risk, too many headaches, high TCO.

Take a lesson from the old IBM, Microsoft and Tesla. Only rent/lease the products and provide your own financing. Set the umbrella so low no one dares (or can) crawl under it.

Take your chances with the DOJ.

Great products, great company. 50% riding on one product is worrisome. Next to impossible to predict how shareholders will behave. Already tarnishing the brand somewhat IMO.
Many more companies should and will follow DELL's lead.
Tough enough managing a business the size and scope of Apple, AND managing activist shareholders and bloggers.

    Some possible cross-currents.

iPad cuts into Mac sales (as well as desktops and laptops from competitors.

"Phablet" hybrid (a larger iPhone, or an iPad mini with cell phone) cuts into both iPhone and/or iPad sales. So far, I have been guessing everyone would buy the combo iPhone/iPad/iCloud.

BYOD. I did not think enterprise would support this model. The cost of supporting and securing devices from multiple vendors, and the legal and accounting costs per employee related to their own devices is much greater IMO than providing the employee with standard issue, iPhone/iPad.

Low end smartphones cut into iPhone sales as more and more users realize they just use the device for tele-comm and it becomes a throw away device. Rounded corners patent is not enough of a moat. A less expensive iPhone cuts into margins, maybe.

The large potential market for these small form factor computers with voice calling features might be big enough to compensate. Apple and Samsung dominate and split 90% of the market about 50/50 (Hertz and Avis). Other players find specialized niches and fight for the last 10%

  • Apple: Major Concerns Overstated And More Than Priced In [View article]
We talked about this long ago. This thing is still possibly very over-owned. You can't pick your parents or your neighbors.

If all the big money holders with 7 to 10% positions decide to normalize to 1 to 5% positions, the selling could take as long as it took for them to build the positions.

  • BlackBerry Vs. Apple: Which Is A Winning Bet For 2013? [View article]
The stock price aside, why would anyone buy a device other than the iPhone/iPad? It is simply not worth it by almost any measure.

iRadio is on the way, medical devices, education apps, ...
    Why fight City Hall ???

You might be stupid, but don't be crazy! :)

Do and say what you want with the stock, but make life easy for yourself (and productive) -- iPhone/iPad.

  • Apple: Up 10% From The Bottom And Going Higher [View article]
    gunzo,

Yeah, that's one issue, but as I have posted before, how the investor base will react is the real question.

My simple models include BYOD. It appears I'm wrong here in that I did not think corporations would allow and/or support their employees choosing and using their own devices.

I thought there would be another big push for Apple in this area as enterprise tools-up with iPhones and iPads.

    DISCLOSURE: long apple products
