English by birth, came to California in 1984, worked in sales as sales director; GM and Market Manager for CBS and then Spanish Language Radio. Watched mad buying spree and station prices go through the roof and broadcast companies over leverage themselves! Invested in various small start up in fiber optic space - both passive and active component manufactures as well as LED manufacturer. Rode the wave of 1997 thru 2000. Bought ex JDSU manufacturing div. in 2002, acquired various other small R&D companies and nano tech div. from BK'd Optical Switch. Increased revenue from $3Million to $7Million mostly by acquisitions. Met with the stupidest and most arrogant VC's on planet earth while trying to raise investment for nano tech company. Q: Why is it that VC's who have never worked a day in their lives but have an MBA or owned a company or started a company, think they have all the answers? I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of so called 'analysts' only repeat what they read by other 'analysts' and follow the pack and have no real use except to fill editorial space. I use my own intuition, the use of a few excellent research subscription services to invest, and have been short for the past four years - well since Google was $700! Turned $80,000 in 2006 into 7 figure personal investment.
