Calling retail investors buying one-ounce eagles speculators? The list of common, everyday English words which have NOT been trashed grows shorter every day.

    • Seven Reasons To Avoid Gold - And Why You Should Ignore Them [view article]
Folks over-reacting to the current dollar rise / gold decline not only can't see the forest for the trees -- they can't see the forest for the saplings. This isn't a major correction; it's a blip. Even a major correction is still a correction in a longer trend.

Switch from a daily/weekly chart to one based on monthly or yearly closes. Zoom out and see other corrections of equal or greater size. There have been several previous in this bull -- and then take a look at the 18-month eye-opener in the mid-70s. That one would try the patience of a saint, but this one shouldn't

      Re the three previous comments:
I've semi-followed VGZ for some time now (almost bought in three or four years ago). I'd look at cost of production (it's obviously no Goldcorp, but may or may not be over industry avg, now that costs have skyrocketed); but would not worry about fraud (not a whiff that I know of).

Don't know if VGZ has a shareholder rights plan in place -- or how effective it might be if it exists. Some seem to have worked for other companies -- but active participation of shareholders to file proxies is vital.

Nussbaum did exactly what he set out to do: add needed perspective to the irrational exuberance of a type of true believer.

As one of those with a tendency toward true belief (we're called gold bugs, no?), I appreciate his efforts.

Valid, valuable perspective. Most of us know about it, want to forget it, and shouldn't. Something similar may or may not happen -- but we shouldn't be blind-sided if it does. Thanks.

A tangent, Roland, for another post: do the double-long / double-short ETNs play a role?
