  • Paper Vs. Physical Assets In Futures, Options, And ETFs [View instapost]
I would like to add that many coal stocks have extremely depressed P/E ratios at the moment. I have seen ratios as low as 5! That will not last. It's completely irrational to be that bearish considering the good financial health of many coal companies.

  • Are Bullion ETFs Responsible For Gold Miners' Dismal Performance? [View article]
Last year GDXJ paid a dividend of 5%.Who knows what it will be this year as GDXJ only pays out once in year in December. The dividend might as well be cut.
And that is the problem. You need to hold for one year to find out what the dividend will be.
These ETFs will only attract more attention if the payout schedule changes to biannually, or even better, quarterly.

  • Apple Adds $12.5 Billion To Cash, Now $116 Per Share [View article]
Yes. The EU could create an Apple windfall profit tax to plug the deficits of the PIIGS. Lol

  • Apple: Why Did You Doubt Them? [View article]
Since Apple did so well in China, does that mean that all the talk about a Chinese hard landing is nonsense?

  • Annaly (NLY) CIO and Vice Chair of the Board Wellington Denahan exercises options to purchase 100K shares of company stock at $13.25 each (today's close $16.17). Her stake in the company is upped 12.3% to 913K shares.  [View news story]
Mrs Denahan just plunked down $1.3M to buy NLY shares. She is not doing that if she has no confidence in the company. Because in that case, she just could have sold the options for $300K.

  • Is The Apple Bubble Popping? [View article]
What is also interesting to note is that during the early dividend days of AAPL, its stock price when nowhere. Only when Steve Jobs arrived and stopped the dividend, the stock price went up.

Now, we have entered another dividend period.

  • Annaly And Other mREITs: Lower Dividends And Stock Prices To Come [View article]
    Not REIT, mREIT.

Apart from semantics, mREITs make money as long as the yield curve has a positive slope. It's pure mathematics: Yield(long) - Yield(short) = Spread. Leverage * Spread = Dividend.

  • Annaly And Other mREITs: Lower Dividends And Stock Prices To Come [View article]
From the amount of skepticism towards NLY and mREITs in general, I infer that mREITs are a long way from bubble territory.
Only when everyone is hyper-bullish on mREITs, when I hear stories like "mREITs will return cash forever", I will become nervous.

I own TNH and am very pleased with its performance.
In addition to SJT, you may want to look at DOM. It also predominately is a natural gas trust.

  • Argentina's Wasted Chances [View article]
Zimbabwe was the bread basket of Africa and had a wealth of mineral exploration. Through the '80s and '90s it has GDP growth of 4+% on average...

    ...until Mugabe came to power.

So, no. It is not a stretch to compare Argentina to Zimbabwe.

One person (and his/her cronies) can really destroy a country.
