  • Overbought And Oversold ETFs [View article]
You've posed a fair question. I'd also like to point out that even if it were a valid indicator in a typical market, this market, having just been juiced by QE3, is in no way typical.

I fully expect SLV and GLD to widen the gap from their respective 50 DMA.

  • Unemployment Numbers Give No Breathing Space For The Fed [View article]
That mean duration of unemployment chart is very telling. That's what happens when the government grants endless benefits for nothing in return. I know, my brother is one of them. There's no incentive for many to work.

In theory, I believe in some level of unemployment aid. However, something seems amiss about paying masses of people to be unproductive. That's what America is going to become soon, one heaping blob of unproductiveness. We are going to just erode away slowly and wonder one day why we are no longer a superpower. Sometimes I think the only way we'll be shocked into accepting the medicine we need is to be invaded on our own soil. Short of that I'm not certain we have the fortitude to turn it around. Big government, small (and weak) country.

I'd feel the same as you if I was long DE and SPLS today. Perhaps you're just not making the right choices.

  • Is It Possible To Make Money By Following Corporate Insider Stock Purchases? [View article]
Insider purchases can be meaningful but insider sales are not a good indicator and too much is made of them. Insiders sell based on predetermined plans (10b5 plans) that they put in place well before the actual trades are executed. Most of the insiders have a high concentration of their company's stock and initiate these plans to systematically diversify their wealth. It has nothing to do with the direction of the company.

I think selling put spreads here is the play to pocket some change if AAPL looks to move sideways for a while. Thoughts?

How convicted are you about CF? I'm long August options but getting concerned. I expected a fairly quick recovery since I think the selloff is unwarranted but it keeps heading lower.

  • 5 Bargain Stocks With Major EPS Growth: 4 To Buy, 1 To Avoid [View article]
I am long options on CF and added to my position after they pulled back on earnings and have been convicted for some time. However, I'm starting to get a little concerned. I am perplexed that it hasn't found a bottom yet. What's your conviction level on CF and when it bottoms do you think it'll be a quick recovery above $190?

  • The Real Way Apple Can Make You 'Wealthy' [View article]
For whatever reason (mostly psychological I think) I havemostly been a buyer of options (generally ITM calls). I have had many wins but the few losses have eaten up much of my profits. My problem is not knowing when to exit the trade. I get greedy and hold profitable positions too long then get caught on a drop. Or I am stubborn and don't exit an unprofitable soon enough. In hindsight, most of my major mistakes have been holding when I should have sold. My other primary downfall is taking on too much risk. I am beginning to transition to being more of a seller than buyer of options.

Thanks for the feedback. I would normally sell puts short term and buy calls for the longer term for the reasons you've stated but I think I went longer term on these puts because I think there a greater chance AAPL pulls back in the short term than in the long term. I guess that I just have a strong conviction that AAPL will be above $600 at some point between now and the end of the year (even if there are some near-term pullbacks) and I can close the trade out profitably. If AAPL plummets in the near-term it will be an excruciating experience. I agree with that. We'll see how it goes.

I bought AAPL on the pullback before earnings and sold after earnings because I didn't want to allocate such a large portion of my trading account to AAPL. Then I sold Jan 13 575/600 bull put spreads for a credit of $12k. Max risk is about $12k. I like the trade. Thoughts?

  • CF Industries Makes A New High, And Keeps Going Higher [View article]
Thanks for your detailed response. It seems odd to me why CF management is planning to release earnings the night before the call, especially if there are nuances that need explained. Why not release in the AM?
