  • CEFL Projected To Still Yield Above 20% [View article]
I think CEFL also dropped along with the Pimco thing- sympathy pains, or something. If you have this for the interest it pays, then the price movement should be seen as a chance to buy more. If the drop in price is cause for concern, and some people have a tough time riding along, maybe something else, like YYY or PCEF would work better for you. It's be a smoother ride, but less in the way of a monthly check.

  • Tax-Loss Harvesting For BDCs [View article]
We can sure whine about a stock in particular: insult it, belittle it, throw darts at it. We might even get angry with "Mr. Market". Might?!!
I think calling a particular author or poster a mindless idiot for ANY reason is crossing the line, and those are the ones I would complain about the most. Written words are difficult to hear tone, and I'm sure some of the fun I've had with some comments, which make ME giggle, ends up being at someone else's expense. But the personal attacks have no place here. Just my cent and a third, after today's bloodletting.

I will, too. Usually the idiot who posts in caps can't spell, either.

That'll be my plan. My broker lets me pool dividends and purchase whatever I want (well, almost) without commission up to that pool amount. Interest, like what comes from the CEFLs of the world, go into the cash account. When I start harvesting the IRA (now semi-retired at 62), I'll structure so that what I keep to grow the IRA by reinvesting will be the pool, and the other component (the interest) I'll take out every month as needed. I could have whatever percentage I want, but the intent would be to have my cake and eat it, too. Of course, living within one's means to begin with sure helps.

There is a lot of ROC in that monthly dividend, so be aware of the tax angle. Gets rather complicated.

It has been paying one huge and two small, but some of the index components switched from quarterly to monthly dividends, so that changed MORL's payments, too. Keep an eye on the stock talks and articles. There are several good ones.

  • The Pure Income Portfolio Alternative: Closed End Income Funds [View article]
Thanks for the help, Bruce. I know just enough about this stuff to be stupid. I was just wondering if there was another plus besides the airlines where lower oil costs would be a big benefit, assuming it was a longer term thing than just a week or a month.

What's your take on some of the utility CEFs now that oil has dropped? Something like INF, maybe or MFD. Would you think an increase in return rate is possible given lower costs?
